This wasn’t our first time on the Getaway - we had sailed on her back in 2015 and the experience was much more enjoyable, but this sailing was not bad at all.

The Bad:

The worst thing about this cruise by far was our horrendous boarding experience! The night before we boarded her, we had continuously received calls further delaying her departure with no explanation as to why. Eventually we had come to find out that it was because a crew member had tragically fallen off the ship! Thankfully, the crew member was found by a Carnival Ship. I would also like to make it clear that I do not blame NCL for the delay, but I do believe that their PR representatives failed to handle the situation very poorly. They were not being transparent at all about why the delay had occurred - I believe that if they had told the truth to the passengers and did not try to hide the fact that it was a man overboard situation, the passengers would have acted much less angry and impatient torward the already struggling crew. Once we boarded the Getaway 5 hours later than we should have, the experience started to turn around except for a few other issues with the ship.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BB

A good amount of space except of the bathroom. The sink you only pour out scalding hot water though. The balcony is a lot smaller than most.

Port Reviews

Harvest Caye

The beach is man made, so it doesn’t compare to the usual beaches on the Caribbean. Also we couldn’t swim in the ocean due to all the jellyfish. Food is not included and extremely overpriced too.
