We have come to avoid big ships, 1400+. We abhor having to walk through casinos and don't like the idea of a floating shopping mall, so we decided after 12 cruises on Holland America to try Viking. We may never go back. First and foremost the ship, service and dining were impeccable. The crew was outstanding and international. The lectures and planetarium were superb. The ports were mostly good but shore excursions in two instances were not well done, but in Viking's defense, it was an itinerary that had never been done before.

The cabins are slightly smaller than others, but since the other facilities on the ship were so comfortable we spent little time in our Veranda deluxe cabin. The cabin attendants were prompt and available at all times.

We especially liked the diverse dining options in the World Cafe, Chef's Table, Restaurant and other eateries. It was a real variety. The venues were designed in such a way that you didn't have a view of two hundred people across a huge expanse. Much more intimate and comfortable.
