Norwegian Epic Review

Overview

I chose this cruise because I wanted to surprise my wife and six-year-old with a Christmas cruise away from home. It’s just the three of us, so a tropical climate sounded good vs cold Colorado this time of year. The Norwegian Epic was my fifth, and last NCL cruise for a while. My family’s experience was not a complete failure, but it sure wasn’t Epic!

Cabin Review

Aft-Facing Balcony

Cabin B1

Cabins on the ship were available for occupancy after 2PM. We had an aft, rear-facing balcony and found it to be clean and tidy when we entered. The cabin was small. With two adults and a six-year-old we were constantly stumbling over one another and we are not big people. We found that it was necessary to unpack everything from the suitcases into the numerous storage areas provided in the cabin in order to make it usable. Whoever designed the sink to be in the sleeping area must have thought it would be super funny to do so. We also couldn’t get any of the lights to turn on. We finally figured out that you have to insert your key card into a slot by the door to activate the electricity. Our balcony was a decent size, and the rear-facing view was nice. However, the props on the Epic can move some water! We were on deck 12, and if you don’t like the sound of the rushing water on your balcony then it would be better to book one on the side of the ship. We enjoyed the sound, and it goes away if you close the sliding glass door so you can sleep.

Our cabin steward was amazing and about the only member of the staff that receives gratuities to really earn them. My wife is a clean freak, and if that cabin had been dirty I would have heard about it the entire cruise. Thankfully, this was not the case.
