OVERVIEW
Our 7-day cruise took us to Grand Cayman & Roatan, Honduras, as well as Belize and Cozumel. This was a “bucket list” cruise for me and my wife because we had always wanted to see the Mayan Ruins in Central America. We saw incredible Mayan Ruins in Belize and Mexico.
The Royal Princess was the largest Princess ship we have sailed on. Also the largest ever. While a large ship, our cruise was very comfortable. We had a Deluxe Balcony Cabin, and between those accommodations and the layout of the ship, we never felt as if we were one of 3600 passengers. A very enjoyable cruise overall.
Our cabin (B618) was on the Baja Deck. It was a Deluxe Balcony cabin. We found it very comfortable and roomier than a Balcony Cabin.
The bed was very comfortable. The mattress was soft, but not too soft, with plenty of pillows. The love seat comfortably sat both of us, and we spent several late nights on the love seat talking about our day, and what we would do the next. The TV was large (seemed about 42” or more). It was wall mounted in front of the bed and easily viewed.
The bathroom was adequate. In a Balcony Cabin, you do not expect too much room, but I was pleased with the size and shape of the shower. It did not feel cramped and gave us enough room to turn about while washing.
Putting the key card in the slot to turn on the lights took a bit of effort to remember, but after 2 or three misses, we did it without much thought as we entered the room. One good side effect…with the key card in the slot, you do not misplace it.
2 negatives about the cabin:
1) The closet and storage space is very limited. The shelves are small and narrow, leaving one wondering where to put some clothes.
2) The balcony is narrow. It is about 2 feet narrower than those on other ships, such as the Grand Class. Only 2 chairs and a small (18” diameter) table fit. It is, though, still a nice place to sit and enjoy the sea breeze.
The town is delightful. The area around the dock was pleasant and uncrowded. We had lunch at "Da Fish Shack", which not only was tasty, but gave us a great view of the harbor.
This was a "port by design". It felt like it was there to serve as a place to stop and stretch our sea-legs for a day. Restaurants are overpriced, as are the rental fees for seating on the beach. You feel like you are being treated like a tourist.
