This was my second cruise with Norwegian and the first on the Escape (Getaway previously). I really enjoyed the additions to the Escape from the Getaway (mainly the District Brewhouse). We went on the 12 day Eastern Caribbean cruise from NYC with my wife and 14 month old son.

SHIP:

Wow this ship is awesome. There was so much to do that I still didn't see if all over our 12 night cruise. Everything was cleaned immaculately throughout the cruise. On the last night, I took a stroll around the ship for one last look and found a whole team of crew power washing everything on the main deck and the buffet was torn apart for cleaning and sanitizing. The staff does an excellent job maintaining the ship at all times during the cruise and everything was always clean and tidy.

Cabin Review

Family Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin M2

We had a Family Mini-Suite with Balcony. The room was very comfortable for my family of 3 on our 12 night cruise. We brought a LOT of luggage and baby gear and I was concerned about it all fitting in the room. We ended up having drawers that we didn't even use that's how much storage space there was. All the luggage stored neatly under the beds as well. We had a baby pack and play in the room which fit between the bed and the sofa comfortably. The balcony was a nice size and included two chairs and a small table. The Family Mini-Suite essentially means you get a bathtub in the bathroom instead of the normal glass shower. This was great for our needs however we didn't get the shower jets like the other mini-suites due to this (we had a normal tub and shower head instead). I sailed in a normal balcony last time and did enjoy the slight upgrade in room size and bathroom size than before. If there's not a large price difference between balcony and mini-suite I would recommend upgrading due to the larger bathroom. I remember my past balcony bathroom being very tiny and cramped. The bathroom in the Mini-suite was very large and comfortable.

Port Reviews

New York (Manhattan)

Embarkation was well organized. Not fun, but organized.

Debarkation was HORRIBLE. Not NCL's fault but the pier doesn't have a great setup for 4,500 passengers getting off. We did the walkoff option (carry all your own suitcases from room and down off ship). The Pier only has 1 elevator to go down about 2 flights of stairs. There was about an hour wait if you needed to use this elevator. They do have an escalator however they didn't let us use this with a stroller (obviously). We ended up taking the baby out of the stroller and I manually carried all of our bags and empty stroller down the two flights. All in all, it only took about 30 minutes from the time we left the room to being curbside however there was a lot of manual labor in those 30 minutes lugging bags down stairs.
