Having done two previous cruises with Scenic, it was our logical choice for a European holiday. Our travel consultant dealt with Scenic and sorted out flights etc which all went smoothly. We arrived two days earlier and were put into Scenic's choice of hotel Sofitel Lyon Definitely not five stars as graded. The next problem was receiving an email from our travel consultant the morning of the cruise start date that she had had word that the departure point for the start of the cruise had been changed. We were a little confused as to whether we continued with the original arrangements or whether we should find our own way to the new location Or even where the new location was. The hotel reception was unable to help so I emailed Scenic. That email sent on the morning of 1 June was eventually replied to on 6 June! Fortunately we found two other couples who were as confused with the arrangements as we were so we all sat and waited and were eventually picked up. A wonderful welcome on arrival but our room 108 was disappointing as we felt it was considerably smaller than the previous ships we had been on. They didn't even have our correct names on the welcome screen - but some instead the names of other guests. This was corrected when we pointed it out. The cruise, service and meals were right up to the standard that we have come to expect from Scenic but we felt that they had cut back on lounge staff and this area was where we would all meet before dinner and quite the highlight of the day but they had only one barman pouring drinks and only two waiters (and they did work very hard), which means with 150 people on board some nights, we weren't able to attract the wait person's attention to order a drink. This wasn't noticeable in the dining room where their were more than adequate staff and great service. We should mention that we had two wonderful captains, both who pitched in wherever needed, were always accessible and so pleasant.
