A wonderful time was had by all, weather was great especially in Roatan and Belieze for December. Last time we were on the Escape but noticed some differences with the Getaway the ship was in need of an upgrade in some areas such as the carpet in the rooms and the beds. Woke up every morning feeling every spring in that mattress. One thing that ticked me off is NCL doesn't allow much time after the mandatory muster drill for the 4000+ people to get up top for the sail away. Like last time by the time we managed to get up to the upper deck from deck 6 the ship was underway already.
The ship seemed a little understaffed with bar service at times but perhaps this was due to what seemed a younger age group aboard than last time. Some people we met were on the week before and said the age group on our cruise resembled the spring break crowd compared to a week before as they did back to back cruises. The casino wasn't as loose as it was on the Escape so we didn't participate as we would normally. Although a couple we met won $18k on the second night. Having been to the eastern side many times before we were a little apprehensive about this western route but we were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed every port. Roatan was our favorite and would recommend the Jolly Roger swim and snorkel one of the best we have ever done so far. Followed by Harvest Caye which had a true relaxing resort feel, my grown kids wanted to stay there for the rest of the week. Costa Maya was very welcoming and gives you a snap shot to Mayan and Mexican culture, Cozumel was as expected being a busy destination port and reminded me of Nassau. Despite what we heard on the news everyone felt safe and the locals were friendly and welcoming.
All in all I would highly recommend this route to anyone looking for good weather this time of year and the Getaway as i'm sure some upgrades are in the cards soon. Our next cruise will be with RC due to the destination we were looking for but we remain loyal to NCL for what they offer as good value in an all round cruising experience.
Needs new carpet and mattresses as do all cabins I imagine. very little movement felt in this cabin for anyone prone to sea sickness and it was more of a forward mid ship than mid ship.
A day in South Beach
Ubered to various locations
Jolly Roger excursion was awesome
My grown children did not want to leave this port it has the feel of a 5 star resort in paradise.
My wife took this with one of my daughters. They said it was as expected and all very organized.
Typical busy port town, there were -6- other ships in port the day we were there. Reminds me of Nassau. The town was clean and the locals friendly and welcoming.
