Enjoyable Haven cruise but could have been better........

Review for the Southern Caribbean Cruise on Norwegian Getaway

We sailed in the Haven on the 11/25/18 cruise out of Miami. Embarkation was easy and quick, partly because we were in the Haven and hand priority boarding. When booking the Haven you spend A LOT of money. The only complaint we have about this terminal is that the Haven guests did not have a separate waiting area like other terminals do for suite guests. We were shoved in a corner with red couches and some drinks and snacks on a folding table. Since there was no separation people would just wander over and take the food. This left nothing for those Haven guests who checked in after us. For what NCL advertises we expected better like in our previous sailing out of Port Canaveral.

The Getaway is a large ship and we probably didn't see or use all of the amenities she had to offer. Since we were in the Haven we spent most of our days there and nights at the specialty restaurants. The Haven area is much different than our previous cruise on the Epic. We liked the Epic Haven much more, however, as a whole liked the Getaway due to the waterfront. The ship was clean and in good condition. We didn't like the smoke smell in the casino. It is very overbearing and in this day and age you would think cruise lines would not allow indoor smoking or have a better way of controlling the smell. My husband loves to play poker and has played in poker tournaments on other cruises. This one he did not play at all due to the heavy smoke smell.

We were in cabin 16108 2 BR suite and it was in a good location. We were off of the Haven courtyard and it was peaceful. The major complaint with this room and we made it an issue on the cruise was the master bathroom window. In our 2 BR suite the master bath large window had a seal broken which left it foggy and filled with condensation. This was very disappointing as we pay for that view. I don't think that window will get fixed until the ship goes to dry dock next spring as we were told it takes 6 months to order. They just replaced it 2 weeks prior but it wasn't installed right. The room otherwise was wonderful. There was plenty of storage and space for all 4 of us and was lovely.

Cabin Review

The Haven 2-Bedroom Family Villa with Balcony

Cabin H4

As I wrote above the cabin was lovely and spacious. It had a lot of storage, more than ours on the Epic in Feb. The balcony was smaller than we expected but usable. The bed was so comfortable I miss it. As I wrote above the main complaint was the broken window seal. Since we travelled with my mother and my son my husband and I spent a lot of time in our room before those 2 woke up. Since my son would sleep on the couch we couldn't open the balcony windows early in the morning. We would use this large picture window in the master bath as our way of seeing the ocean. It was very disappointing to have it damaged and to lose out on that view. We had this same room on the Epic and really loved that view each day.

Port Reviews

Harvest Caye

Very clean and pretty. However, all the extra fees make it less desirable than Great Stirrup Cay. I would probably stay on the ship next time if I have this port in the itinerary again. Not worth the cost of food and drinks.

Costa Maya

We really enjoyed this port. We didn't do an excursion but had a lot of fun seeing what the port had to offer. Can get crowded at times if there is another cruise ship docked there.

Roatan

Very small port and not much to see unless you do an excursion.
