Cabin: Balcony

Though Cunard are not the cheapest, the whole experience was slick and smooth. We booked a Britannia balcony cabin, with coach transfer as part of the deal. Excellent coach to Southampton with two stops on the way. Arrived on time and in cabin within 30mins.

We chose earlyt dining (6.30pm) on table of 8 and had good company - we moved round the table as the cruise progressed. Formal dress (jacket a must), but informal dress at the all day Lido restaurant, which we chose on three occasions. Food and service in the Britannia restaurant were excellent, but be warned, alcoholic drinks are pricey. Lido food also very good with great choices for breakfast, lunch and evening meal. We didn't use any of the other restaurants (eg Verandah) were there is an additional charge.

Evening entertainment was very good, and excellent at times, though we didn't see all the one hour shows. At 60 and 67 we were probably in the younger 10% on board. Only impact was the day time entertainmeent and some shows are aimed at the older age group. It didn't bother us at all.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin BA

King size bed, two seat sofa, table and chair - clean and tidy. Room missed being cleaned once - human error - and immediately rectified. Always kept clean. Shower, toilet and basin - small, but functional and power shower was good. Didn't use balcony much, but still nice to have as you enter/leave ports and occasional private relaxation.

Port Reviews

Cadiz

Tourist Info within 5 mins of ship. Plenty to see and enjoy for a day. We were put off Seville excurion by 3 hrs coarch travel.

Hvar

Tender - very smooth operation. Tourist Info office again very handy. Small town/village, but pleasant and enough to see for the time there (ie until mid afternoon), including climb up to fortifications (entry fee) - fantastic views. Lovely little cafe down back line off harbour which sold gluten free cakes.

Dubrovnik

Coach organised by ship to city walls (fee). We walked city walls (fee), buying a ticket to include a few museums e.g. maritime. Worth the few pounds extra. Took us 2 1/2 hours, but six ships in so it was very, very busy - too busy for my wife's liking. Food and drinks are pricey within city walls. Lots of cobbled lanes to explore within city walls. Long queue to get ships coach back. We found Dubovnik a little disappointing, mainly because of the crowds.

Venice

Views from ship into and out of Venice are magnificant. Arrived early morning, and in St Marks by 9am. We went stright into Doge Palace (fee, but no queue). Excellent headphones guide (fee). Took us over 2 hours, but well worth it. Came out to go into Basillica, but by now there was a very long queue, so we didn't bother. Made our way to Rialto Bridge and freasonably priced drinks with lovely view of the bridge. Also went up tower in St Marks Square, with lovely views. Very busy, but crowds more spread out than Dubrovnik. Very lucky - 5 days later square was flooded. Would go back to Venice for a city break.

Sardinia

Plenty to see in Cagliari. We again did our own thing with very helpful Tourist Info who not only provided a map but suggested a route to take in all the main sights. Lovely palace (home of the viceroy) next to the catherdral - well worth a visit - small fee - try to catch the English speaking guide.
