We have taken many Viking river cruises. Unfortunately this was the non cruise cruise as the Elbe did not have enough water to allow the ships to navigate the river. Therefore we were bussed everywhere and there was zero cruising. If you take this route ask what months are best to give the chance of water in the river as apparently this happens quite a bit around the time we took the cruise. Other than that the places we visited were interesting but it would have been much better to have seen them from the river versus through a bus window. The staff tried to do as much as they could to make this a good experience but that was difficult given the circumstances. Viking did not notify us of the situation until two days before embarkation. Not good for us as we were already in Europe so no chance to defer. They then offered a very small amount of compensation for the cruise. Finally senses prevailed and they gave us a credit for half of the cruise value. The only issue was it had to be used within a year of the cruise date. I would have made that two years as people already had booked 2019 cruises.
