Cabin: Deluxe Stateroom with French Balcony

We arrived a day early and had time to explore Amsterdam on our own which was enhanced by the guided walking tour as part of the itinerary. On arrival at the ship we were greeted by friendly staff and directed to our cabin (206) which we found to be small but quite comfortable and with an exceptional view just a few feet above the water. There was plenty of room for all our stuff and storage areas we never even used. We explored the ship from one end to the other and every crew person we met greeted us with a smile and "Hello".

The food was excellent and plentiful and again, all the staff were attentive, polite and helpful when there was a question. The on-board musician was a hoot and the extra entertainment the ship brought on-board was a fun change of pace, especially the wood carving demonstration.

The shore excursions were very good with only one being so-so (due to the guide, not the city). Tony our Cruise Director was really good at evening briefings for the next days activities and he was very receptive to any and all concerns and praise we had regarding the guides. Service was superlative, the food was Delicious, and the staff attentive at mealtimes. The intimacy of a river cruise is the deciding factor for us. We have done an ocean cruise and after our experience with Avalon, will only do River Cruises in the future. Instead of 3000 people, there is 135, you actually get to know your shipmates, and have amiable companions on your excursions. Being able to be up on the top deck and be a part of going through the locks was also an important event. The crew and the sailors were always ready to answer questions and point out interesting items.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Stateroom with French Balcony

Cabin B

The cabin at first seemed rather small, but when you realize that you spend actually little time in your cabin, it is fine. It was the perfect level-you missed nothing! We saw windmills, bridges, castles, vineyards, villages, cities, waterways all at eye level. being able to simply recline on your bed and watch the countryside flow by was bliss!
