Awesome scenery, people, crew, tour guides, and food! We felt very well taken care of the whole time. We would have liked to spend more time in a couple places (some of the quaint little towns, for example) and could have spent less in a couple, but no complaints other than the weather. It was really hot! But we were lucky because we were the last boat to make it up the Rhine before the water got too low. We only went on the scheduled tours, not the extras, and every one of the tour guides was terrific. The food at all the meals was uniformly excellent, and the wine was pretty good too. We also enjoyed happy hour in the bar a lot! (Half-price drinks) We highly recommend river cruises over ocean cruises, and Avalon in particular. A bit smaller boat than other river cruise lines (about 120 passengers), which made for a more intimate experience, but the crew and amenities didn't suffer for it at all.
We were the last aft cabin and so just above the propellers, which made it noisier than usual, I think. After my wife started using earplugs and I got used to it, it was better. Other than that, the cabin was fine--large enough to hold all our stuff for a 13-day cruise, and still move around a bit. Big picture window was great.
NIce cathedral, lovely town that had a good mix of the quaint and the modern (ie, shops along the main street). Only spent the morning here, and would have liked to have more time.
Truly charming and picturesque little town, with a nice guided tour. Had wine tasting afterwards, which was fine but after having 6 Rieslings they all start to taste the same lol
