Two years ago, we found ourselves cruising the Baltic on the Serenade. During that sailing, they began advertising for their fall crossing from Copenhagen to Boston. It looked intriguing, so we kept our eyes peeled for future crossings. Cut to 2017, and they released our itinerary with the addition of Greenland! We jumped at the chance to book it, and we were not disappointed!

What was originally a family cruise turned into a mother/daughter trip. While we had already spent time in Copenhagen for our Baltic cruise, we knew we wanted to spend more time this year, since it's such a great city. We spent three days exploring prior to embarkation and stayed at The Square Hotel, right across from City Hall and down the street from Tivoli. We couldn't have asked for a better location. The actual port for embarkation is Oceankaj, which is a ways away from the city center. I believe our taxi cost about 260DKK.

Embarkation in Copenhagen is a breeze. Disembarkation in Boston is not. We'll get to that later.

Cabin Review

Junior Suite Accessible

Cabin J3

Room 1570 was a typical junior suite. The Serenade did a quick maintenance dry dock in late 2017, so the suites received a little upgrade. The chairs were new and the sofa bed had been replaced and changed to a nice big couch. As for this particular room, 1570 is in a great location. We typically cruise in a JS, but we've run into the issue of hearing carts and chairs on deck 11 - whether it's on the pool deck above or more frequently, the Windjammer. 1570 is directly below the carpeted area of the Windjammer, so we heard absolutely nothing above us for 16 nights.

Port Reviews

Copenhagen

Copenhagen is an incredible city, and it would be a shame if anyone flew in the day of embarkation and missed out on it!

Lerwick (Shetland Islands)

Cute island town with friendly locals.

Halifax

Halifax seems to have gone through a construction boom. The boardwalk from is full of new apartments and condos with plenty of shops and food options. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic was educational and reasonably priced. It was fascinating to read about Halifax's role in the aftermath of the Titanic disaster. I would definitely return for another visit!

Sydney (Nova Scotia)

It was a cute coastal town, but the downtown area seemed to have seen better days. There were a lot of vacant storefronts, which was surprising considering how many cruises dock during the fall season.
