Ship: The Getaway is a definitely a large ship servicing over 4,000 passengers. I prefer a smaller ship, nonetheless, NCL staff does a great job at spreading the people out with different activities and interests, so it doesn’t feel overcrowded like some ships with the same capacity. We cruised on the Getaway in the inaugural year; but she’s still “ship shape”.

Service: The service was excellent throughout the ship. Some cruises you feel like the staff are “doing their job”. On this cruise we saw a lot of smiles, and staff who were all about your having a great time. In the Garden Cafe and around the common areas, plates were quickly picked up and tables cleaned.

Beverages: If offered with Free at Sea, I recommend the adult beverage package, even if you moderately consume alcohol or don’t drink alcohol at all (for non alcoholic fruit drinks). Careful ordering the recommended beverage in the specialty restaurants, because they could be well over your $15 per drink allowance. In all the restaurants, if you don’t order from the wine list, they’ll likely recommend the North & South (house wine), which is fine; but perhaps not to your liking for a specific meal. I recommend you peruse the wine menu. The Sommelier can be quite helpful if you request assistance. Most of the bartender’s are spot on with mixed drinks.

Cabin Review

Family Balcony Stateroom

Cabin B2

We had a family balcony cabin 12270. We enjoyed our cabin with the bed by the balcony full length sliding glass door. I would have sacrificed a shorter couch for a larger balcony. The balcony allows you to comfortably sit on a 45 degree angle toward the outside; but any more and it’s just not deep enough (FYI I’m 6’1” tall). If you are a person who wants to plug in your electronic devices next to your bed, come nighttime you better bring a long extension cord to run from the mirror consul to your bedside. I bought a 20 foot extension cord just for that purpose and it was long enough for my wife and I to share. The bathroom is nicely laid out and has plenty of room and storage for your personal effects. Overall the cabin has a very nice design with plenty of storage space. Lastly, we always ask the steward to empty our refrigerator the first day we are there. That way we make room for what we want.

Port Reviews

Cozumel

We went to PalMar SMALL Snorkel Beach Club, which is a good spot to snorkel off the beach.

Roatan

Fantastic snorkeling! Ask for the taxi rates in advance. Recommend West Bay for snorkeling and Banana Rama if you want to relax for a few hours and have security watch your personal effects.

Harvest Caye

Nice beach. Need to show up early or look around if you want a spot in the shade.

Costa Maya

Didn't do a lot in Costa Maya. Just got our shopping out of the way.
