My husband and I decided to take a spontaneous cruise to the Bahamas to celebrate our anniversary and just to get away. We booked this through Expedia not really researching this particular cruise line prior to purchasing. We saw that it had an open bar which doesn’t really appeal to us as we don’t drink, but we do like to get virgin piña colada‘s, so we were excited. However as soon as we boarded the ship we noticed immediately that the atmosphere was like that of spring break gone wrong. People were already drunk and partying by the pools Which immediately made it undesirable to go lay out. So we walked around and explored a little bit. At one point I expressed to my husband that I felt out of place because of all the partying. I personally noticed that there wasn’t that much to do on board unless you like to gamble, drink, or enjoy a cheesy show. The room was nice, but if you’re looking to relax and watch TV at the end of the day, you’re not going to find what you’re looking for. They literally have four or five channels dedicated to the cruise ship, three news channels and two movie channels. This ship is definitely NOT for families. After seeing a couple of families around we commented that we were glad our children were not with us for this vacation due to the whole atmosphere. Even a Norwegian employee commented that ever since they started providing the open bar, it changed the whole atmosphere of the ship. The shows were really unprofessionally done and as someone who works in the hospitality field, I felt like there were things with the entertainment and accommodations that could have been done way better and more fun for the guests! One other thing that really upset me was the lovely surprise of an extra $120 on our final bill because of a $20 per person per day service charge. We didn’t read the fine print so we were incredibly surprised by that and felt it was sneaky on Norwegians part. They should include that in the price you pay up front which is just a simple courtesy. I will say, The islands were beautiful and we did enjoy the all you can eat food. I liked that they extended the buffet to the first island, which is Stirrup Cay, their personal island. That way we didn’t have to think about lunch and that was nice. The day on Nassau was great as well. In all honesty, My favorite things were OFF of the ship. Nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves just being together and exploring a new country that we’d never been too but all in all we would never cruise with Norwegian again.
