Just sailed on the Getaway 8/19 to 8/26. I traveled with my wife and two kids. This was my 9th cruise with Norwegian. I have also sailed on the Gem (twice), Sky (three times), Epic, Escape and Breakaway. I state this because I want you to be aware that I have been on NCL's small and large ships. The experience every time has been awesome. The Getaway is the sister ship to the Breakaway and very similar to the Escape so it is great to get on a ship and know where everything is. When we got on the ship the crew directed us to the buffet on the 15th floor, but we knew better. We headed straight to O'Sheehan's the pub on deck 7. There, we were able to enjoy a peaceful sit down lunch consisting of fajitas, sheppard's pie, nachos, spinach and artichoke dip, and ceasar salad. After lunch we headed up to the pool deck threw our stuff on the lounge chairs and hit the water slides. They were great! (there is a 99 pound weight minimum for the drop slides and everyone is weighed)

This was a Western Caribbean cruise stopping in Costa Maya, Mexico, Harvest Caye, Belize, Roatan Bay Island, Honduras and Cozumel, Mexico. This was a terrific itinerary, especially because there were four port days. One should be reminded that you will turn the clocks back twice (an hour each) when you get to Costa Maya and Harvest Caye and then twice ahead on the way back. We disembarked in Harvest Caye and Cozumel and hit the beach. Roatan Bay looked beautiful, but we decided to enjoy the ship, and we actually did get off at Costa Maya, but just walked around the shops at the port. There was wifi at the Starbucks in Costa Maya and Cozumel. All you had to do was buy a $4 drink and wifi was yours for 2 hours, which is much cheaper than buying an Internet package on the ship.

Overall this Getaway Cruise was awesome. We enjoyed entertainment like Howl at the Moon (dueling pianos), Million Dollar Quartet, Comedy shows and Burn the Floor, all for free. We did pay to see the Cirque Dreams n Steam show, which was well worth it (great food and a great show). One thing to be reminded of is that the shows in the theater are approximately 90 minutes. Million Dollar Quartet was worth the time. We dined in the Tropicana Room (main dining room) for 6pm one evening and the Burn the Floor cast danced for about 30 minutes while we ate. They were fantastic, but I am not sure I could watch them for 90 minutes. The game shows held in the Atrium were really good and made us laugh. Just be sure to get there early so you get a seat. Also, the ropes course, water slides, and mini golf were all wonderful free activities for the entire family.

Cabin Review

Inside Stateroom

Cabin IF

We had cabins 5704 (me and my wife) and 5706 (kids). Everything was fine. No bathroom issues and the room was cleaned up well twice daily.

Port Reviews

Harvest Caye

Very nice beach. Water not as clear as other stops, but good if you are looking for a beach day.

Costa Maya

Just visited the shops at the port. Got some great pictures of the ship. Only port where you can get full clear shots.
