We wanted to go to Alaska (and had cruised there before 20 years ago). We decided to do the Talkeetna Treasures land/sea cruise tour. The land portion of the trip was amazing. I am still trying to fathom how large Alaska is. We were fortunate enough to see Denali twice while on the tour (so we are members of the 30% club). We didn't see a lot of wildlife (eagle, moose, bear) but the countryside is so beautiful and during our almost two weeks there, the weather couldn't have been better. Mostly sunny skies with temps in the low 70s. Only one day of rain, which didn't last very long. In Juneau we did the Mendenhall Glacier and whale watching and we were amazed at the number of whales we saw during our outing. We even saw a bubble net which the tour operators said was unusual to see. Even the tour company was excited about the numbers of whales we encountered. In Skagway we did the train excursion and went up on a bus and came back down on the train. Beautiful scenery and blue skies the whole trip. We also did a jeep excursion on Icy Straight Point and a city tour in Ketchikan that included Totem Bight. We learned a lot on the tour, especially about Native Americans. We also went to Jeff King's Husky Homestead and saw presentations on the Idirarod, which Jeff has won 4 times. We got to hold the puppies while we were there. A great excursion and we learned a lot about the race.
The Millennium was a fabulous ship (this was our first time on this ship). We selected Aqua Class and enjoyed the meals in the Blu Restaurant much (the berry pancakes with pecans are excellent at breakfast). The wait staff were very accommodating. We had 19 hours of daylight during our cruise. It still surprises me to see the sun up at 10:00 p.m. I am so glad we went to Alaska again and did the land and sea portion. We loved our cabin steward and our waiters - everyone was so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the variety of shows and the tour excursions offered were excellent. We were very impressed that Captain Alex was there to bid us farewell as we left the ship. We would definitely sail on Millennium in the future.
We loved the cabin and our steward who was very responsive to our needs and requests. The cabin was a nice size with plenty of room to walk around and the bed was very comfortable. We love the balcony on the angle of the ship - the balcony is larger than other balconies and the cabin is near the front of the ship (port side) The location of the cabin was close to the elevators, but far enough away so as not to hear any noise from other passengers. There was plenty of storage space for our clothes, with lots of hangers in the closet. The bathroom was a nice size for a ship, and the shower area was roomy.
