Cabin: Penthouse with Large Balcony
We chose this cruise, quite frankly, because it was the only cruise that had the size of room we wanted during the time frame we needed. We knew absolutely nothing about Norway, but had already done a Mediterranean cruise and wanted to do something a little different. We had no idea how much we would end up loving it!
This was our first NCL and their service and attention to detail is some of the best we've experienced. We also booked during a sale, so included in our room was the unlimited beverage package for 2, 125 minutes of internet (or a $125 credit toward the $175 unlimited internet package, which is what we did -- you can just have only one device logged into the wifi at once), $50 shore excursion credit per day, paid gratuities for 2, a $150 on board credit, and 5 restaurant credits for 2 people (will explain more down below). The unlimited beverage package was amazing (we had never had it before) because we never worried about whether or not to get a drink -- but had it not been included, I do not think we would have gotten it because it is $89/day + gratuities, which would be hard to justify as most drinks are around $9 (unless you are drinking 10+ drinks a day!).
Because we had a suite, there were several perks included in it that will make it hard to cruise any other way. First, when checking in in Hamburg, we got to skip the line and go through the priority line (which no one was in) and it probably saved at least 45 minutes as the regular line was VERY long. Next, they had our butler (Camylla) escort us from the check in, through security, and on to the ship to our room and gave us the run down on everything. She was amazing! She would check on us every day and ask us if we needed anything or had any questions. She also brought us a snack every afternoon. There was reserved seating in the balcony for the shows each now for the suite & Haven people and the Suite & Haven guests got to eat breakfast in Moderno's and lunch in Cagney's, which was great!! Although the Garden Cafe (the buffet) had a larger selection for breakfast and lunch, having the quiet and secluded restaurants to eat at was much more relaxing.

Penthouse with Large Balcony

We had a "Penthouse Suite" on the front of the ship because it was my husband and me + our 25 year old daughter (who just graduated from law school and took the bar exam) so we wanted to get a room big enough that we wouldn't be too cramped. We could have either had the front or the back and I am SO glad we went with the front because the balcony is probably one of the largest on the ship and the views are incredible! The room was not huge, but a LOT bigger than a normal balcony room and had the best balcony! It did rain a lot during the night, so I would recommend moving the furniture (3 chairs + 2 lounges) to the covered part of the balcony so they do not get wet.
The bathroom had a sliding door that closed off the toilet and a bathtub shower with a hand held shower head. We had higher quality shampoo & conditioner, which was great because the normal rooms had a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner.
It also had a walk-through closet which you could open the door to close off a side so that you could change behind it without any one else in the room seeing, which was nice. The vanity included a jar with q-tips and a illuminated make-up mirror. There was plenty of storage for the three of us to completely unpack + some extra room! We did have to ask for a few extra hangars and they brought us 12 more! Our luggage all fit under the bed. There was a twin sized pull out couch that our daughter slept on and she said it was pretty comfortable! There was a curtain that could be pulled out to separate her bed from ours.
There was a Nespresso in our room, which we ended up loving because espresso anywhere else on the ship costs extra (unless it was in an irish coffee, then it was included in our bev package!). We also had a bottle of champagne and a large water bottle in our room when we got on the ship.
Although the room is not in "The Haven", and was probably the smallest of all the "suites", we had arguably one of the biggest balconies on the ship and still received all the big suite perks (i.e., butler, conceriege, special dining, reserved seating, etc.).

Came here a day before the cruise and stayed one day after. We did the free walking tour (you just pay what you think it is worth at the end) and also went to the Miniature Wonderland Museum. Highly recommend both! The walking tour lasted about 2 hours and we probably walked no more than 2 miles at the most and there were several breaks. The mini wonderland is amazing! Would be great for kids especially.
