We went with our in-laws who went on a Princess land/cruise to Alaska 15+ years ago. They loved it then, we all love it now. We did land flying into Fairbanks and hopping on board in Whittier. We did not observe any age or wear and tear others have complained about. If they did have it, it has definitely been fixed.
We had stateroom cabins on the Lido deck port side on a southbound voyage from Whittier to Vancouver. I recommend this location. Mini suit may get you a couch in the room, but we did just fine. We had two rooms so plenty of deck space for us with the door open (and asked to close when seas were rocking). I know they try and show things on both sides of the boat for important places, but land will always be on port side on a southbound voyage.
Service in cabins, restaurants, bars, and casino were all great. I rented a tuxedo rather than stuffing my bag to over 50 lbs. The front desk/bursar helped me tremendously when the pants were obviously not the right size. She diligently reached the tailor to get me a a new pair.
Cabin was very efficient It's a boat, so showers are stand up. Lido deck gets you some exercise going up the stairs if you want it and close to the buffet, spa, and upper decks. Great views for glacier watching.
Beds were remarkably comfortable. I was not expecting to be it as efficient and enough for us to want to stay in the cabin. I did pick up a tip on a blog to bring a cheap 6 strip extension and place it in front of the TV. This works great for charging all your phones, iPads, Kindles, fitbits, and camera batteries. Cheap as all get out and makes it a one way trip to take place with a souvenir on the way home.
Just hopped off the train and headed on to the boat. Were the last train in at 6:30pm so the boat was waiting for us.
This is why you came on this cruise! The glaciers are the star of the show. We had dense fog from Whittier all the way to Glacier Bay. But the sun peeked out just enough and the fog lifted for spectacular views of the glaciers.
Great time and saw sea anemones, starfish, and some fish.
