This was my 8th Norwegian Cruise, and my 10th cruise overall (others were on Carnival and Princess). I have sailed on the Dawn, the Sky, the Pearl (twice), the Pride of Hawaii, the Getaway but my very first NCL cruise was 12.5 years ago on the Sun. I was thrilled be back on the one that started it all. This cruise was a quick getaway weekend cruise for me and two girlfriends. One of them had sailed before on several different cruise lines while the other was a cruise newbie. We picked this cruise for the all-inclusive aspect as well as it being over a weekend.
However, this cruise was unlike anything I’d been on before, thanks to my stupidity. About 6 weeks before sailing, I was in an accident that involved an overfilled wheelbarrow, the result being lots of damage to my knee. I had a ruptured ACL, a strained LCL, and a non-displaced fracture of the lateral tibial plateau. I had surgery to replace the ACL exactly 4 weeks prior to sailing. Unfortunately the fracture meant I was still non-weight bearing at the time of sailing. My physical therapist and surgeon approved me going as long as I took a wheelchair. So this review will not only tell you about the Sun and our enjoyment of her but also about the handicapped accessibility.
EMBARKATION
Large for an inside cabin but very worn. Broken drawers and worn out bathroom. Comfy beds and lots of storage and floor space.
