We just returned from the 7 day Alaskan cruise on August 4th, 2018. We have cruised 4 times before on Carnival, Royal, and Norwegian. We like Norwegian because of all the different restaurant choices.

Having had great prior experiences, we overall felt nickel and dimed throughout this cruise. Some of the highlight items (go-karts, and laser tag) were extra charges, and if you did not pre-register or sign up on the first day, you were out of luck. We also found these attractions closed several times unexpectedly, and they do not run all day.

The restaurant services and bars were varied. We particularly enjoyed Ocean Blue, Cucina, and Cagneys. Most specialty restaurants have a flat cover charge (if you did not get a dining package). However, one, Food Republic, was a pay per item dining experience. This was explained to us when we checked in with the hostess. (Contrast this with Margaritaville, which was a flat $15 pp, and you order what you want). That reminds me about the alcohol package we bought: The selections were top shelf at most bars, but if you want something premium, you can use up to $15 per drink towards that price. (So, if Hendricks was $18, you'd be charged $3).
