We chose this cruise because we have always wanted to go through the Panama Canal. Going through the Panama Canal was the highlight of the trip and the only part of the cruise that I would recommend anybody doing. The stop in Costa Rica was absolutely awful. Puntarenus, Costa Rica was our excursion for that day. Excursion was titled “scenic Costa Rica”. We saw nothing but trees, shack‘s and trash all along the route. I asked the excursion desk people why they even stopped in this area. They said their stops on the cruise ship came from the corporate office. I showed them the pictures I took from our excursion and they agreed, it’s an awful place for the cruise ship to stop, but their hands were tied. I advise them to call it something different then “scenic Costa Rica” because we surely did not see anything scenic.

The room stewards were very accommodating, however, the staff in the dining room appeared new to the cruise line and very inexperienced. We had to wait great lengths of time to get our food, which by most standards, was just mediocre. The steaks were tough and the soups were the same almost every night, had very little flavor and not very interesting. There was nothing on the menu in the main dining room that I would write home about. The specialty dining’s were good, not great . The buffet in the upper deck were always crowded because there was not enough room for a more variety of dishes on the service line. They had the same thing almost every single night. Their nightly shows were OK but nothing that I would ever returned to see again. The movies that they showed in the movie theater were geared to children 8 to 15. The movie selections on the TV we’re also geared children. They had the Terminator II, a lego movie and Batman movie and some other child’s movie, They only had five TV channels, three news stations, one TV show station and movie station, again geared to children. TV stations were so bad that even the comedian in one of the shows joked about how bad the TV choices were. I have to say, the average age on this cruise was 65. The activities, movie selections and shows in the main theater should have been geared to a more mature audiences. We did not buy the drink package but we did find that the same glass of wine in one bar would be two dollars more in another bor for the same wine. I will not recommend Norwegian Cruise line anymore. We have been on several Norwiegian cruises, including the Sun the Epic and the Pearl and we will no longer recommend cruising with Norwegian.
