Being wine lovers, we wanted to visit Bordeaux, 'the wine capital of the world'. Our trip started with a pre-cruise two night package at the Intercontinential Bordeaux, in an upgraded executive room. The pre-cruise package was an excellent deal as it included all transportation and full breakfast.
The Scenic Diamond was moored about a thirty minute walk from the hotel. We ventured over there for a look where we met Mauricio, the hotel manager. He welcomed us to board early and have lunch on-board. As we booked the Royal Owner Suite, we felt we received amazing service from all of the staff, especially Aron, our butler. Our newly renovated two room suite was beautifully, appointed including an amazing outdoor balcony and two person bathroom.
The meals prepared by our executive French chef were all nicely varied, hot and very tasteful. We opted for a combination of the breakfast buffet and a la carte entree service (eggs Benedict was excellent). We usually enjoyed the light lunch, served in the restaurant, beside the main bar. Dinners were excellent and varied, although some of the daily special entrees were usually overdone. Most of the wines offered were from the Bordeaux region, good but not exceptional. However, the bar selection left nothing to be desired and included top shelf liquor and after dinner drinks.
The newly renovated and refurbished owner's suite was absolutely a joy and pleasure to stay in. Lots of space and high end furnishings and gadgets.
