Embarkation in Seattle: We had a check-in window from 11:30-12:00 but arrived at 11:00 on the shuttle. We asked if we had to wait but were told the times were intended to space everyone out but were not enforced. That was clear when we got into the main area of checking-in. More on that later. We had cruise and travel documents reviewed three times during this process which was totally inefficient. Upon entering the building, one person asked for our passports and birth certificates but asked us to separate into two lines depending on what documents we had. Then off to another line to show our cruise docs, passports, and birth certificates. Up an escalator for our security screening then in line to check in. The line moved quickly (less than 10 minutes) and we were separated into two groups due to booking two cabins. When traveling with kids, this didn’t make sense but we worked through it. Pictures taken and we got our cards. Just when you think you’re off for a quick picture and boarding, the huge waiting area awaits. I’ve never encountered this before and it was odd. Huge area with people sitting in rows of seats. It reminded me of jury service. We were assigned a boarding group and took a seat. The problem is everyone got up when a group was called to move closer to the ship. We didn’t have faster to the fun but they got to board right before us. As much as I wanted a FTTF pass (Sold out), it looked like it would have been a waste of money. After about 20 minutes, our group was called and we boarded.

Ship: I was underwhelmed by the ship at first but it grew on me during the week. Some areas were dusty and the ship shows its age. At the same time, there are plenty of areas to hang out in and explore. The dining room is beautiful and the buffet had more seating than previous cruises I’ve been on. I got a couple spa and salon appointments. The treatment rooms are down the same hallways as the locker rooms and sauna so it wasn’t the most serene experience but I still enjoyed it. Pools were too cold for anyone to swim but I did see the hot tubs getting used a lot.

Food: We ate in the dining room, Truffles, most evenings. We chose open dining to have flexibility. Despite needing a table for seven, our longest wait was 30 minutes. Good food and excellent service most nights. My husband and oldest child did the Chef’s Table one night. They loved the experience.

Cabins were typical in size and amenities. One outlet but we had a power strip and extension cord in each cabin so we were fine with charging our devices. The bathroom is small and does show wear but it has plenty of shelves for storage which was a bonus. There are three large closets with plenty of storage, including one with three shelves. One of our cabins had a pullman bed with a safety rail that wasn’t particularly tall. I was worried about my daughter rolling off but she didn’t. I still wouldn’t recommend it for a person who moves around a lot when sleeping.
