Have mostly cruised Celebrity for the past several years. We had two criteria for selecting this cruise--I wanted to see Singapore, and we wanted to try a more upscale cruise line. We had sailed Silversea years ago with a group for work, and they had a good price going places I've never been, starting and ending in Singapore.

We have minimal requirements for a good cruise--a place to sleep, good food, an itinerary with interesting stops, and a quiet room. We don't drink so the all inclusive meant little to us, and rarely go to ship's entertainment (unless they have a guest entertainer that we think is better than average).

We normally cruise on Celebrity for virtually half the cost of what we paid. Yes, the cabin was larger (nice!) and we really liked the small ship (uncrowded, virtually no one else in port). Food was consistently better than Celebrity, with outstanding service--a more traditional cruise experience, and what I remember from Celebrity years ago on our first trip. Meat was always top quality, and finally a cruise line that can do desserts the right way, especially the chocolate (although my wife would complain there wasn't enough milk chocolate). Kind of odd to see a burger on the dinner menu, but the jalapeno pickle infused burger was good enough I had it three times (once for breakfast).

While we normally pay half the price for a cruise, we also usually get half the cabin. As I'm up earlier in the morning, we liked having a curtain where I could sit and not disturb my wife. Always a perk to get my shoes shined (the last time that happened was our last SilverSea cruise about 10 years ago). Some noises when we docked, but that was just a signal to be out of bed and onto deck to watch the process.

Minor issue towards the last part of the cruise--water in the bathroom sink was discolored. Notified the staff who where anxious to show concern, even offering some onboard credit (which didn't have much value on the last night on ship). But while they demonstrated concern, I'm not sure they did anything besides running the water and saying "it looks good now. " This happened 3-4 times over the last few days. Had it been earlier I would have asked to have been moved, but as it was I just started using bottled water. I don't think anyone ever checked to see what was going on, nor tested the water to make sure it was good. Then on the last night the second sink in the bathroom had the same problem. Earlier I had felt a little quesy, but that went away, but after that last night with my wife's sink she got off the ship and didn't eat for the next day. I cannot say it was the water, but again, they didn't seem to do anything to resolve the issue, just kind of hoped the problem went away.

A somewhat minor annoyance but still of some concern.

Port Reviews

Yangon (Rangoon)

Night tour was the best of the trip.

Langkawi

just paid driver at the dock for 5 hours

Phuket

Quite far to places of interest. A bit too touristy for me and not enough time to get out of the traffic.

Penang

Just did Uber to go to various sites in town on my own.

Singapore

spend 3 days doing our own thing, using taxi and HOHO bus. Night safari, Chinatown, Gardens by the bay.

Kelang (Kuala Lumpur)

great place for a little hike and local experience
