This was me and my husbands first cruise. We decided to take a cruise because one of his co-workers retired and wanted to take a cruise to celebrate with family and friends. We were suppose to pull in to Amber Cove, Dominican Republic on Monday, but we did not as we were told the weather was to bad for the ship to pull in (I do not believe this). In my opinion, we did not pull in because the Island was probably not up to par for us after the storms. Tuesday was St. Thomas, USVI, which again was not up to par from the previous storms, but the water of course was beautiful. The next morning (Wed), our lights went out in our cabin. I called housekeeping to let them know, but I could get no answer. I tried several times calling, but again no answer. I had to shower using the flashlight on my cell phone. I called again to housekeeping to let them know about the lights being out and the sink was also backing/stopped up. I finally got an answer and the rep told me just to stick my room key in the compartment by the door and the lights will come on. I asked her could she send someone for the sink. She informed me okay. How in the world would we know this! Some things should be mentioned up front to avoid having to call housekeeping. I did what I was told and the lights came back on. However, no one ever came for the sick. Our next stop was on Wednesday in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We paid for this excursion which was suppose to be a tour of San Juan. This didn't happen. The driver just dropped us off at the museum and told us what time to be back to the bus to head back or we could just walk back to the ship. We watched the video for a short while and then we all headed out and toured the San Juan museum on our own. After we finished touring, we stopped to eat in San Juan before heading back to the ship. Unfortunately, the next day I came down with a cold. Therefore, I was unable to make our last stop which was in Grand Turk. I was informed I only missed the beautiful blue water. What made things so much worse, was the fact I could not get real orange juice or proper room service. My husband called to order me some soup and he was told they do not have soup, but different salads. I decided to order two cups of orange juice, two cups of ice, and cold tea. They brought me a picture of hot water for hot tea in which I didn't ask for, juice that was TERRIBLE! One cup was not drinkable at all. I am not sure what they were thinking sending this watered down mess! Not only that, they sent two coffee cups for the hot tea and one of the cups was dirty! This cup had red lipstick around the rim (would not let me post pic of course). NASTY!!!! The next day, I am still recovering from being under the weather, my husband had to go down to the 3rd floor just to get some real orange juice and French toast for me. Thank God for the dining room! The entertainment was good and the dining room was good. Our waiters were great. Juri was excellent along with his co-workers. I was to impressed with carnival magic and the time it takes to get inside to your cabin after going through line after line is a bit much. This is not kid nor elderly friendly at all. They shut down the elevators to several floors at one time in order to deliver the passengers luggage to them. I personally witnessed older individuals having a difficult time with the stairs trying to get to their cabins. Many had to stop and take a break before trying to take another set of stairs.

Cabin Review

Our cabin could have used a little help. I took it upon myself to strip our bed and noticed the mattress cover was torn in several areas. This needed to be trashed. Our bathroom and the smell of urine even after it was cleaned by me and the steward. On our second day aboard, there was an issue with the toilet not flushing. This was an issue in many cabins as there was a problem with the pumps being down. There needs to be something done about the television channels in the room. Three good channels is not enough.

Port Reviews

St. Thomas

The weather was beautiful, but the Island was still recovering from the previous storms. There were a lot of homes still covered with blue tarps and powerlines in the streets.
