Let me preface this by telling you that my husband and I have been on several Holland America cruises in the past, including another on the Eurodam several years ago that was quite satisfactory. Unfortunately, this particular cruise changed our previously positive attitude towards HAL into a negative one.
Cons:
Checking in for the cruise was miserable for handicapped passengers needing wheelchair assistance. The waiting area was very limited and all the seating was taken by a mix of disabled plus many people who were not disabled, leaving just a narrow standing space against a wall for incoming disabled guests. Family members of disabled pax who were sitting in the few available chairs refused to give them up for the disabled and cruise terminal staff who saw the problem did not request that they do so nor did they provide any extra seating. After half an hour of suffering, one staff member estimated it would take more than 2 hours to get aboard the ship via on of the only TWO wheelchairs that were being used for this purpose. Although there were a dozen chairs lined up outside the terminal building, there were not enough Eurodam crew members available to push them and non-staff were not allowed to touch them. After this announcement, which seemed optimistic since it was taking 20 minutes for each wheelchair to return, several disabled guests opted to painfully hobble through the very long lines and board the ship on their own. Not a good start for any cruise.
