Let me begin by stating that I am an experienced cruiser. I have Platinum loyalty level with Princess and NCL with multiple cruises on Carnival; I have also cruised with Costa, Holland America, Celebrity, RCL, and Dolphin Cruise line. This cruise was my second cruise on Crown Princess the first being in November; about 6 weeks before. We booked this cruise strictly due to price but I found the quality had slipped some since my first voyage late last year. The cruise was a five day, round trip Fort Lauderdale with stops at Mahogany Bay, Roatan and Cozumel. Our cabin, an inside, was adequate with lots of places for storage, a safe, and a fridge. My one complaint was that the shower was rather small. The dining room food on Crown Princess is very good although as I stated not quite as wonderful as the first time around. In one instance I ordered the roasted duck for dinner; the time before I was served a quarter duck but this time the portion was tiny and I was served only a leg which was beyond skimpy. Service in the dining room was excellent but I had requested a server I had from the time before who I knew was good and the service remained excellent. Pizza on Crown Princess is not the same wonderful pizza Princess is known for; on both cruises it was sub-par. The grill and buffet food is not much better. Like other Princess ships when dining on the Lido deck servers bring the beverages but that concept didn't work very well and the beverages are not set up well for self service. Fun things to do are pretty much non-existent. One night when going to the Lido deck for "Movies Under the Stars" there were no blankets, no towels, and no popcorn; we were told "they were out." The shopping host is more of the same talking about Diamonds International and Del Sol but she is awfully long winded and sensationalizes everything. One example was the grand prize at one of her talks; "a Tanzanite necklace worth $500.00 she said but it was the free giveaway at Tanzanite International; no gold, no silver metal omega with a stone that they give away with any purchase. Roatan was a bit of a disappointment. Last time we were there we found a wonderful flea market across the street from the port but this new port is a cruise line port with limited shops. Because Crown Princess is an older ship there is a complimentary steam room and sauna for both men and women which is always nice. A little past half way through the cruise I used the bathroom by the theater before the show and found the sink filled with vomit. I should have known then that there was sickness on the ship but the next day my companion came down with virus; vomiting and diarrhea. The day after I got it and could not leave the cabin at all. Food was out of the question. Finally I was able to get some jello down. The bottom line was that it turned out to be a horrible experience due to the virus we contracted but even without considering that I would not rate this ship very highly.
