We had been planning for this cruise for over a year as part of our 40th anniversary celebration. This was our 3rd cruise and overall the experience, both on the land and sea portions, were generally positive. The wait staff on the ship was exceptional. They couldn't do enough for you. The captain was very engaging and funny and made an extrordinary effort to steer the ship close to the glaciers, which were spectacular. He also made sure that both the port and starboard sides of the ship had a chance to see these magnificent jewels of nature. Our stateroom, a balcony, was comfortable, with plenty of room for our clothes and other items. The entertainment on the ship was good, if not spectacular. Especially enjoyed Steve, the comedian, who really engaged the audience and had everyone howling with laughter. It was nice to see a comedian who didn't have to use crude or off colored jokes to make us laugh. Also a shout out for all of the national park staff who came aboard the ship and helped up understand all of the beauties of Alaska. They were outstanding, and we learned quite a bit about this last frontier. The only downside of the cruise portion was the food, which we thought was about the same as the two previous cruises we had taken. We believed that Princess was a step up from Royal Caribbean and Carnival, but the food was about the same. Not bad, but not exceptional either. I think we enjoyed the land portion of the experience just as much if not more than the cruise portion. The 8 hr train ride from Denali Princess to Whittier was unbelievable. The scenery, especially the first 2 hours, was gorgeous. I would have preferred if our guide would have talked less and let us just soak in the panoramic views. We also took a plane ride over a glacier from Talkatneeta, which was a once in a lifetime experience. We also got to see close up humpback wales and bald eagles on an excursion from Ketchikan on a rubber raft to a small rain forest island park. Overall we really enjoyed ourselves, and in this 2-week adventure built a lifetime of wonderful memories. .
