We chose this cruise because of the intinerary, and the ports didn't disappoint. I sailed with my adult son so I can't comment on the "family" experience. We chose a balcony cabin and love the ability to sit outside and enjoy the sea air with a cup of coffee (or alternate adult beverage). We were initially wait-listed for late-night dining and were relieved when the maitre D' made it happen. However, they sat us at a table for two, with large family groups surrounding us. The wait staff was overwhelmed with these large tables and we felt forgotten most of the time. Food was fabulous (and we are both foodies): We never had a bad meal. We also ate at the Farenheit 55 steakhouse, the sushi bar, the seafood shack, the BBQ as well as Lido for breakfast or lunch.
Entertainment was fabulous. MUCH more live entertainment than on prior cruises. Elizabeth at the Piano Bar was wonderful. The shows were terrific. Matt, the cruise director, made everyone feel welcome: He would walk the ship to give hugs, shake hands, say "hey"...
We did a fabulous excursion at La Romana: The dune buggys. We got caught in a storm, and covered in mud, but never had so much fun EVER! At Grand Turk, hustlers tried charging for the beach chairs. We got frustrated and went back to the ship. Security was lacking, unfortunately. Aruba was gorgeous. We went snorkeling and loved that catamaran and snorkeling excursion. Curacao was my favorite: We walked the city which was clean, friendly, unique and historic.
Gorgeous beach with too many hustlers who ruin the experience.
Our favorite port - easily walkable. Much history here.
