My husband and I booked this cruise for our 35th wedding anniversary. My husband had been on a cruise many years ago and enjoyed it, but I had been skeptical due to food poisoning reports on other ships and I wasn't sure if I would get sea sick. Once on the ship, we were immediately greeted by our steward who already knew who we were and called us by name. He changed our sheets each day, made sure we had enough towels and even made an elephant out of towels placed on our bed. Don't forget to tip your steward at the end of the cruise. They work so hard. The going rate with tipping is about $15/day for stewards. We booked a balcony room on the aft side,11th floor. We were at sea the first day and it gave us time to get to know the ship. First, we were thrilled to sit on our balcony and enjoy the calming waves from the ship. The sunsets in the evening were stunning. It was reassuring to see the staff constantly cleaning. Our first meal was in the Garden Cafe, which was freestyle. The food was very good and being vegetarian, it was another concern of mine. Vegetarian dishes were marked in green. Desserts were way too delicious. The Garden Cafe crew were so wonderful and when it was time to stop the meal for the next one, they were excessively cleaning. The presentations of the themed dinners (ie Italian night, Mediterranean night) were beautiful with fruit carved into flowers, etc. We booked the Italian restaurant for the following night on the ship. This is one of only 2 negatives I will post and that was the very slow service in that restaurant. Also, we were the first to be seated for dinner and those who were seated after received their food long before us. As we were leaving, I mentioned to the woman in charge how long it took to get our meal and she just looked at me and said, "All things good are worth the wait". She continued to smile and basically blew me off. We didn't book the Italian restaurant again the rest of our cruise. The second negative was how long it took to get the ship "cleared" by the port in Rome. We had booked excursions every day of the cruise, and we worried that we may miss meeting our guide. We met all the excursions on time. We had booked our own excursions, rather than pay the high prices of the ones offered by the ship's excursion coordinators. They will try to scare you (online) into buying their excursions by saying that their excursions wait until every one of those passengers has boarded. After our excursions, I no longer had fear of not making it back to the ship on time. Get your Guide and Viator had excursions that were more to our liking with the stops we wanted without wasted time. This is where we saved BIG and all the excursion guides met us on time and guaranteed us to be back in plenty of time before the ship left port. Don't lose your ship ID card. You will use it coming on and off the ship and for buying things on the ship. You and your belongings will be scanned each time you re-board the ship, which made me feel more secure rather than bothered. Hand sanitizer is offered before eating in the Garden Cafe and coming back on the ship. They also had small drink refreshments when we reboarded. It was a nice touch given the temperatures were over 100 degrees each day. They also had cool hand towels waiting for us as we reboarded... nice. We didn't participate in much of the onboard activities so we can't speak to that part of the cruise. The last night on the ship we booked dinner at Cagney's steakhouse on the ship. My husband said that his steak meal was the best he had ever eaten. Being vegetarian myself, I had ordered scalloped potatoes, creamed spinach, and one other item. Before I took my first bite, the head of the restaurant came up to me and asked if that was enough food for me. The portions were a bit small, but I was okay with it. She said, let me bring you more food. What would you like? Since she insisted, I asked for more potatoes. The meal was very good. We were very pleased with our cruise and would highly recommend the Norwegian Epic to anyone. I'm sorry this is so long, but I wish I had a review to read like mine before I went. A+.
