Our 1st cruise, and oh, my goodness - my husband and I had no idea we'd enjoy it so much! The Azamara Quest is a beautiful ship, the rooms are quite spacious, our balcony was a great added touch. The food was incredible, the service spectacular (we felt so pampered, but not intruded upon), the many-included ameneties and the way the crew enjoys being with the guests made us all feel like family. The whole time, we felt like we were at a 5-star resort and kept saying 'what took us so long' to do this?!?!?'

Because it is a smaller ship, we saw many people over and over and found it easy during meals to strike up conversations. The regular dining room is like a 4-star restaurant and the 2 specialty restaurants ($30/person) were some of the best food and atmosphere we have ever encountered . . . . which, on land, would have cost at least 3x more. Twice, they offered fancier specialty buffets (gratis) - one breakfast (I can't even tell you all the food choices) and one seafood, including grilled lobster tails and crepes suzette:).

The smaller ship allowed docking closer in for shore excursions and my husband and I were busy seeing fabulous sites each day. We loved the fact that many days, the ship was in port until late evening, giving us plenty of time to sightsee and get back to the ship for cocktails by the pool, a wonderful dinner, and the evening's entertainment. Captain Jose and the crew were out among the guests often, visiting, having meals, heading up an on-board gathering.

Cabin Review

Club Veranda Stateroom

Cabin V3

LOVELY!!! Plenty of room with king bed, sitting area w/couch, coffee table, desk, flat-screen tv. Bathroom not big enough for both of us at sink together, but not a problem. Beautifully appointed like a hotel with robes, slippers, big closet and LOTS of hangers, hair dryer, toiletries.

The stewards would make your room up morning and evening (turn-down service) unless you put out the 'do not disturb' sign.

Port Reviews

Rome (Civitavecchia)

We have spent time in Rome before, so arrived one day early to wander neighborhoods, see Trevi Fountain (it was being refurbished last time), Spanish Steps, and EAT! Took the train to port - no problems!

Florence (Livorno)

Hadn't visited Florence before, so made online reservations for L'Accademia museum and Duomo Museum visit and dome climb. Showed our vouchers and got in with no problems. DAVID IS BREATHTAKING!!

Walked to bus stop and took to train station; rode train to Florence. No problems, except that it was HOT, but of course, in late July . . . .

Portofino

We tendered at Santa Margherita, wandered through the quaint town and rode the ferry to Portofino. Such a charming place! Walked up the paths to higher elevations and incredible views, had lunch back by the water, and walked the 3 miles back to Santa Margherita. What beautiful scenery and the walk was on flat road (we are in our early 60s:)!

Saint-Tropez

The town is lovely and we walked through it, bought a fancy beach towel, then headed to the water. I was disappointed in the beach - not pretty like I expected (I guess I thought it would look like Florida), but dark tan sand and lots of washed-up seaweed. Having grown up in Houston, I didn't want to see a Galveston-like beach:( However, the water was more blue . . . and colder, hahaha. And, there were yachts parked everywhere; that's different!

If that was on a future itinerary, we would choose the ship excursion that went to one of the other towns (Port Grimaud?) - people said it was great.

Barcelona

I loved Barcelona way more than I thought I would! It is such a clean city, too. We spent an extra day here after disembarking and again, had made online reservations for climbing the Passion Tower at La Sagrada Familia (WOW, so incredible!) and the Picasso Museum. We had a 48-hr train pass and wandered down the waterfront, rode the funicular up to Montjuic and the tram down, wandered Las Ramblas, found La Boqueria Market (gracious, so many stalls). Had fabulous tapas and Spanish wine:)
