Grabbed this cruise once Norwegian announced that it had Cuba sailings and then nervously anxiously waited to see if political changes would stop our plans dead in their tracks. Thankfully they did not and our whole family is so grateful that we were able to form memories of a lifetime in this special country.

Embarkation was a tale of two lines. The initial line was nonexistent and we breezed right through the queue line at 11:30 and dreamed of stepping aboard our ship imminently in the swiftest boarding process of all time, only to be ushered off to a large room where people were waiting (some more patiently than others) to begin the boarding process. The room was pretty full and we were given Boarding Group 17, but all and all, it didn't take too too long, though there wasn't WiFi there and our LTE signals were bad, which made waiting a little less than ideal.

Once on the ship, it was as promised: Older ship that was very clean with friendly service. The ship wasn't overly small, but it certainly wasn't a megaship. Most of us were happy with this; I often pointed out that since we're a forgetful family, it was nice never being too far from the cabin when we needed to run back to grab something or try to find each other (no cell service has a way of making you actually FIND your relatives as opposed to just texting them demanding to know their location!) Food onboard the ship was standard affair for cruises (we, particularly, I happen to love standard cruise dining food, there's something to be said for the ability to have a steak and caesar salad every night and not have it charge you any extra). Buffet food was good. Waffles at breakfast tasted like Mickey Waffles (if we have any Disney fans here) and other food at the buffet was standard fare (with pizza and fries being above average in my judgement, for my fellow junk food aficionados). The last morning we did breakfast at Palace and loved it. Every year we vow to do breakfast at the formal dining hall and then wind up only doing it on the last day. Maybe one of these years, but suffice to say, it's quite good! Food on the private island Great Stirrup Cay was underwhelming in my opinion (though everyone else in my party seemed fine with it, more on that in a moment).
