After sailing with SilverSea on the Silver Wind in 2011 we decided we prefer the smaller numbers of passengers over the larger ships and booked with them again.
We wanted to see St Petersburg and Moscow and thought this cruise would allow us to do that. The Bullet Train between the two cities was also something new to experience. We had been to the Scandinavian countries 30 years ago and enjoyed it so thought it would be fun to visit different places in the same countries as we had been to before.
SilverSea arranged for our flights - getting there was a very long day having to fly from Tampa to Dulles to Frankfurt to Oslo. Frankfurt to Oslo flight was delayed by 2 hours. Once on board the flight was fine and Business Class was worth the extra air fare.
Cabin 539 did not have air conditioning for 3 days. This was not acceptable so we asked to be moved to another cabin and were able to move to Cabin 542. Interestingly, in 539 we had a dead orchid, no flashlight, no pen. In Cabin 542 we had no orchid, but a flashlight and pen. This amused us.
No time to walk around much because flight was delayed.
Disappointing that we couldn't go to the Castle. Visiting the pastry shop was fun.
We walked around Helsinki with another couple and enjoyed it very much. People were friendly when asking directions.
