I wanted to experience the mediterranean without having to move from hotel to hotel so I thought a cruise would be a great alternative when travelling alone. I was apprehensive to say the least after reading what other people had written in their reviews. The flights were long but reasonable (I flew Etihad). I had 3 nights in Genoa before embarking the Magnifica staying at the Grand Savoia Hotel. It was beautiful, luxurious and well positioned close to the centre of town. Food and staff were wonderful. Worth the extra expense.

Joining the ship was ok, organised, but not explained very well. Perhaps that is because being Australian it was difficult to hear the English announcements over the PA as everyone was noisy and talking. Considering the number of people to be processed, I think the wait was about an hour.

The boat was clean, well maintained and the staff spoke a number of languages. 80% of the people on my cruise were 60 yrs + the rest were couples or families. I only met two other people travelling alone during my time on board. Most were german, dutch, russian, spanish or italian. I liked the european flavour even though I didn't have many people who I could chat to.

Cabin Review

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin B2

The cabin was clean and functional with plenty of drawers and hanging space for two. I travelled alone. The bed was firm with a selection of pillows. The bathroom was small as you would expect, my shower curtain needed a wash and a few hooks were missing. The shower floor looked like it needed a good scrub, but to be fair I am really fussy about cleanliness. The basin and toilet were spotless and staff serviced the cabin daily.

Port Reviews

Genoa

I spent 3 days exploring Genoa on my own before joining the ship and loved all the architecture, sights and food.

Tenerife

Gardens and architecture were interesting. Had free time as well for shopping.
