We had been to virtually every other place. The cruise was beyond our expectations. The staff was especially attentive to our needs. I had fallen on an excursion, and the cruise director took me back to our ship. She administered first aid, and saw to it that I was comfortable. On another occasion, my wife was ill, and thr Maiter D brought her chicken broth to our room. We had complimentary wine at lunch and dinner, as well as complimentary water before excursions. Viking does not nickle and dime you to death.

the complimentary excursions were exceptional.

The pre-cruise experience was wonderful. Someone met us at the hotel, explained what to expect, gave us restaurant recommendations, etc. The trip to our ship in Porto was interrupted by a surprise visit to Coimbra, Portugal to visit one of the oldest universities in Europe. At lunch, we were treated to a concert of Fado music. It was beautiful!
