My husband and I have been on 3 Viking River cruises in the past, so we were anxious to see how Viking managed to translate their methods to a larger ship. The results were impressive. While we did not have the intimate experience of getting to know practically all the passengers and crew that you do on the 75-80 room longships of a Viking river cruise, the service was still personal, professional, and every detail was seen to expertly. The ship was just beautiful, with places to soak up the sun, get out of the rain, or enjoy a quiet drink at every turn. Like the mega-ships, there was onboard shopping, but it was not overdone, and you did not feel like you were part of a floating straw market. The spa was simply fabulous, and unlike many ships, the whirlpool, steam and sauna were available to passengers at no additional charge. Our stateroom was roomy and very well-appointed. The restaurant options were varied and able to accommodate our mood and schedule with delicious options at all levels. There were lots of entertainment options available, and the excursions and port transportation were managed smoothly. As with Viking River cruises, we will definitely recommend this to our friends, and cruise Viking Ocean Cruises again!
Our cabin was the most economical available, which we did intentionally. We wanted to see if we thought the additional perks were worthwhile. I think next time, we might go one level higher to get the in-room coffee maker.
