I traveled with my two kids, age 2 and 4, my husband and my parents, who were in an adjoining cabin. We were on deck 10, exterior balcony room, port.
We were repeatedly extremely disappointed with the poor service, or complete lack of service. We had dinner in the Grand Pacific dining room on 3 evenings. The food was bland and service non-existent. For example, at one point my two year old knocked over a glad of water while the waiter was standing at our table. He literally did not react. We jumped to contain the water and had to ask 5 TIMES for dry napkins. Drinks take forever. We were repeatedly looking around for someone to either take a drink order or refill our wine. The drink waiter is different than the food waiter.
The food - meh. Pasta Arrabiata is bland red sauce over warm noodles. Nothing spicy about it. The "bread pudding" doesn't have any bread in it. It's a weird gelatinous white pudding. Once you've waited for ages to order and mass produced blah food is on the table, do not expect a waiter to return to check in on you. They're gone. If you're thirsty, order 2 at a time.
Fine. Lots of room under bed for luggage.
very industrial port
We took the ferry to Playa del Carmen for the day. Beautiful beach day, but ferry was very rough and people, my family included, were puking the whole trip.
We went to a beach place that was not really the beach, but a man made pool with a restaurant adjacent to the ocean. just ok. Weather was poor. Belize is clearly very poverty stricken. I felt uneasy being out amongst the locals, traffic is completely unregulated, the driver asked us to steal a beach towel for him. shady.
Gorgeous. Beautiful West Bay Beach was our highlight. Do not book through NCL, just find an independent resource prior to cruise or a driver when you get there.
