Just enjoyed a 7-night cruise onboard the Norwegian Jade for our honeymoon. Having cruise cruised many times previously I was prepared for the onslaught of screaming children and partygoers however this was by far the most relaxing and enjoyable cruises I've ever been on.
On board the ship freestyle dining takes center stage. We had a complimentary dinner at Le Bistro in our package which was the best meal we had on board. The two main dining rooms, Grand Pacific and Alizar, were decent. They had a semi-rotational menu with about five or six items being changed daily. The best part of the food was the availability of vegetarian options for my other half. We rarely had to compromise on eating in order to both enjoy our meals.
We also had the unlimited beverage plan (included in a promotion) but never once got close to matching its value. We took full advantage of it but could not reach the 5 drink/day/person value.
We signed up for the guaranteed balcony not knowing what to expect. Even though this is considered an "obstructed view" we didn't feel as though it was a hindrance. Basically you are in the bulkhead of the ship and have some of the metal-workings framing the view. In fact, this actually gave more of an indication that you were actually on a ship rather a hotel which added to the experience.
The interior of the stateroom was perfectly adequate for two people and provides more space than your standard interior room. It was able to fit a combined two-person bed, a couch, two desks, and a coffee table with room to spare.
Warning: they tell you not to leave your balcony door open which of course we disobeyed )because who doesn't like hearing the sound of the Mediterranean when your sleeping). However when the air pressure outside does not match the air pressure of the ship it can create a vacuum effect when the hallway door is opened. Long story short, we opened the hallway door while the balcony door was opened which caused all of our daily papers to fly out to sea. We're making a donation to Greenpeace to atone for our sins.
