I travelled with my husband and 2 teenage boys and my parents. First time cruise for us, 13th cruise for parents who had done this cruise before several years prior. My parents rated this at the worst ship, it appeared to have been downgraded from the previous cruise. It needs a 3rd adult pool. There is main pool which kids used, plus any LOUD belly flop/sexiest man/volley ball comps were held. Loud music blasted out all day. Another pool in the solarium, nicknamed "cocoon" by one entertainer and stuck with the passengers throughout was full of the elderly, it was also enclosed making it very stuffy and humid. There really should be another adult quiet pool.

Tendering was a long drawn out process, taking literally hours to get off each time. Once off, we always seemed to be on the opposite side of where any tourist spots were, necessitating in more queuing and haggling for drivers to travel for some distance. Same to return. Shore excursions exorbitantly priced. The omission of the Broome port was played down, only by chance after queuing for 2 hours at Fremantle to embark, I picked up a flyer on a desk that had a small announcement explaining tide issues caused a problem and we would dock at Port Hedland instead. REALLY??? Port Hedland is comparable to Broome??? Anyone I talked to on the ship would have preferred to Bali for 2 days instead of Port Hedland. No one had ANY desire to visit Port Hedland. Port Hedland volunteers did their best but were sympathetic. We had a bus ride to the visitors centre/mini museum and then to a shopping centre which had a Woolworths and a couple of shops. In no way was it equal to Broome.

The buffet was ok. The dining room evening meal was the highlight of each day. Iputu and Sreeyesh our waiters were friendly and very accommodating with any special requests. Our food was always very well presented and cooked (except for the last night of frozen fish and running out of lamb shanks). All crew we came into contact with were very polite and helpful, we were impressed by all staff. I would be prepared to try cruising again but not on this ship.

Cabin Review

Interior Stateroom

Cabin M

This cabin had to be the worst in the ship. Deck 2, quad share. 2 adults and 2 boys. We could all barely stand up. Décor was horrible brown/cream. Bathroom was like a caravans bathroom. Double bed next to wall with kids beds folding out from ceiling so when laying in bed there was another bed above your face. It was extremely cramped and claustrophobic. I could not recommend this room to anyone. After 4 nights we went to guest services and asked for help. We were offered an additional room for my husband and I as it appeared 2 passengers had not embarked at Fremantle leaving an empty room. We could have that room for 2 nights until we reached Bali, the ship was trying to find out if those passengers were getting on in Bali or not. Luckily for us they didn't and we were able to stay in the room for an additional $500 US, roughly $800 AUD. This new room in the same corridor a few doors down was huge in comparison and also had a window and larger bathroom. WHY are 4 people squeezed into a space barely larger than the bed? It doesn't make any sense to put 2 people in a larger space than 4 people? So it looks like RC sold the additional room twice. I have to say that the lady at guest relations was helpful and Lukas the supervisor was also polite and listened to us and arranged the new cabin. No fault of the crew, it is a design flaw. The space in 2511 is not habitable for 4 people on holiday.

Port Reviews

Geraldton

We walked for about 15 mins to the war memorial, had free tour/commentary by a volunteer, then walked again to the Geraldton gaol, another free tour/commentary, then to the Museum (free). Then back to the ship. It was Sunday and nothing was open and hardly any one around. The ship offered the same tour for $99.75 US!

Lombok

we hired a driver who took us to a weaving factory/clay factory/ Mattaram shops (don't bother). Good to see around the island independently but not a huge amount to see here.

Langkawi

walked off ship some distance and found island hopping tour operator, around $20 AUD each for a couple of hours, took us around the islands to see Sea Eagles, a fresh water lagoon where you could swim, but lots of steps and monkeys, and just generally around the islands, nice breeze and pleasant experience.

Kelang (Kuala Lumpur)

queued and hired driver for about $100 AUS to take us to Sun Pyramid shopping centre about 45 mins away and he waited and took us back to port. Very large shops with known brands. Large level of kids entertainment, we put our 12 yr old boy into a movie whilst we shopped then took him to an archery facility on the same level which he enjoyed.
