Sail Date: Jul 2015

We just returned from a 9 night cruise of the Mediterranean on the Rhapsody. Compared to other ships I've sailed on (Princess and Disney), it was fine. Not spectacular, but not bad. The staff was really great (always friendly and helpful), and the service was good. I was also impressed by how well organized things were. This was the easiest embarkation and disembarkation I've ever experienced, and I thought the shore excursions were very well-organized. Also, we arranged a pre-cruise hotel and pickup from the airport, as well as transfer to the pier. All of this went extremely smoothly and we were very happy.

We had an interior cabin. I had never stayed in an interior before, and I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much room we had. Not alot, but more than I had expected. There were 3 of us in the room, and we never felt too cramped. The dining was hit-or-miss. The buffet was a typical cruise ship buffet, and it was fine. The dining room was a little disappointing. Not a lot of variety, and we had some dishes that were just bad. By about night 3 I started ordering vegetarian entrees because the meat just wasn't that great (tough steak, fatty roast beef). However, some items we ordered were really good. So, it was just hit and miss. Entertainment and activities on the ship were okay - again, nothing that blew me away, but it was ample and enjoyable. One thing I didn't like about the ship was the number of times staff members would try to up-sell something (we were approached multiple times with a speech on how we should eat in the specialty dining rooms), and we were also approached multiple times about the survey we'd be receiving at the end. Everyone wanted to remind us to fill out the survey. It got annoying.

The main reason we chose this ship was the itinerary (Istanbul to Rome, including Greece), and we were not disappointed. We loved every port, and as I stated before, the shore excursions were very well organized and we had great tour guides. If your main concern is great ports and scenery, than this is a great cruise to take.
