We were finally on our way to Alaska. We were originally booked on the 6/ 3/2005 sailing that was cancelled due to pod problems. We ended up going to Bermuda last year on the Horizon after our cancellation and used our free cruise on the 6/17/06 Alaska sailing on the Summit.

We flew in one day early from Knoxville, Tennessee and stayed at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel. The hotel is beautiful but very expensive. After arrival we went out for some sightseeing in Gaston and a bite to eat at a small pub type restaurant. We had originally booked this hotel on the understanding that the Summit would be docked across the street at Canada Place. However, this was not the case. We had to take a short bus ride to Ballaytine Pier to board the ship. The bus left from the hotel at 11:00 AM and we were onboard by 11:45.

Embarkation was easy and efficient. Our room was a balcony cabin, number 7160, on the starboard side of the ship. The cabin was nice, but when the sofa bed is pulled out, it makes it hard to get to the balcony. You must climb over the bed to get out to the balcony.
