First, I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to this website. I've been following Cruise Critic for years and have learned so much from other cruisers. About us--we're in our early 60's and this cruise was our 40th Anniversary gift to each other. We couldn't have picked a better vacation!
Our previous cruises (just 4) have all been on HAL and Celebrity. We have appreciated the elegance, ambiance, and decor of these lines. In particular, we feel that the service and warmth of the crew on HAL makes us feel very welcome and "at home".
Embarkation: We flew from Chicago's Midway to Ft. Lauderdale the day before sailing and stayed at the Comfort Inn in Hollywood, FL. The hotel was average but the employees were very nice and they provide free airport/cruiseport shuttle service, and also a complimentary breakfast. The young man in the lobby who arranges transportation does a great job--he suggested that we have dinner at the Rustic Inn--we took his advice and had a delicious seafood dinner dockside. Just what we needed after a tiring day of traveling. The morning of departure we took a shuttle to the port and within minutes were on board. By 12:30 we were having lunch in the MDR.
Cabin Review
Neptune Deluxe Veranda Suite
We were thoroughly pleased with our suite. Spacious stateroom and balcony with comfortable furniture. Bedding was superb. Very ample closet and cabinet space, and we always bring more than we need. The things that really matter to us--A/C, plumbing and water pressure--all worked perfectly. The location was great--very convenient to the elevators and Neptune Lounge. Since there were no public areas above or below us, the only noise we heard was an occasional slammed door. Our stewards did a great job and the ladies in the Neptune Lounge were very cordial and accommodating.
