cabin great ,staff great, food average ,shore excursions way over the top in price ,cant walk around the whole ship on any deck its designed different ,was upset that we could not see the fjords in new zealand because it was rough apparently, but was not happy to here a much smaller ship P and O explorer was able to go there when we should have been there . any one wanting to go really do your homework on the excursions better off booking on shore or private before you go . found the food in the buffet average and was the same most days ...the times we dined in the dining rooms the food was ok the bakery was great the cakes etc were very nice....they make a fortune on bingo and of course the jackpot went off on last day as all the ships do they were a tad cheaper to play then royal caribbean . our cabin was alweays kept very clean and well looked after fresh towels etc everyday .i would suggest to check account every day as one day there was an extra four drinks on there that we did not have to the vale of 34 au dollars .....they were very good on giving us a refund ...but best to check and keep record of what you purchase . also when you order your wine etc if you are an aussie make sure you ask for aussie wine ...they tried to give me some chardonay from america it was like drinking chemicals took it back ...so you have to be quite clear to ask for aussie wines .to round this off i can only compare with one other cruise we booked this one because of all the hype about it ...yes its fairly new ,yes its a lovely ship ,but seriously our cheaper cruise was just if not better then this one ....will i book with princess if we go on another proberly not . We are a younger couple who didn’t not fit the average customer for this cruise. The cruise was full with older people, didn’t really appreciate our presence. If it wasn’t the passengers giving the side eye it was the crew. They must not expect us to spend money in this way as well. We chose this cruise for port locations. Next time we would choose to travel independently. Take a flight and stay at our destination. You get more of a geninue incounter with the land and people. Select members of crew were outstanding. Food was mediocre. Crew is trained to upsell you on EVERYTHING. Ship was clean. Available time to relax was perfect. Board game/game selection was outstanding. Onboard activities can be a little repetitive and cheesy. Wasn’t any real options for our age group except for drinking- we don’t drink a lot. We adored the center ballroom which always seemed to have older couples floating across the dance floor. Read Less

We sailed on the Regal Princess in June this year and wanted to compare vessels. From the very first impressions it was obvious this ship was indeed designed for the Chinese gambling market, a beautiful ship none the less but has missed out in many ways. The theatre (Princess) was small and the seating reminded me of a budget airline and as about as comfortable. One of the bars in the atrium is a converted juice bar ( a terrible waste of space ) and sitting at the bar with an other couple was difficult because of a large glass showcase taking up most of the available counter. The French restaurant on the same level was always empty. The atrium is typical of Princess so no further comment Our cabin was a mini suite, mid ship and on deck 15. Very comfortable and nicely fitted out but the overhang from the walkway obscured any vertical view. The crew were fantastic as usual and often went beyond. The wife and I had booked the Harmony restaurant (Chinese banquet) for our final night and were disappointed at the standard - most of the courses were sent back as too cold or inedible. Entertainment was mediocre at best but I'm sure Princess are working on it. Makes me think they are trying to cut costs. We have travelled many times with this cruise line (three time this year) and have noticed a decline in the standards offered Read Less

Not a family friendly ship. Had a quad cabin on Marina deck and when beds lowered from roof the ladders obstructed the main walkway for door/bathroom. Bathroom very small compared to other cruises Dont try to get food or drinks after 11pm apart from the Piazza which dies off after midnight..with a majority of cruisers elderly which is what Princess have pitched this cruise to Cruised with a party of 8 and all agreed Royal Carribean and Carnival are better designed for families and have better used space on the ship You have to get a seat in theatre at least 45 minutes before shows which were average on some nights...Comedian and magician good Missed the fjords due to.poor weather..loved Akaroa and Tauranga where we did our own excursions to Rotorua where we went to the gondola and Luge..well worth the trip. First cruise on Princess and will be looking elsewhere for the next in 2019 Read Less

We chose this for a relaxing holiday break. I usually spend a lot of time on deck 7 Promenade deck enjoying walking and hearing and seeing the ocean in peace and quiet. Was extremely disappointed at the lack of a Promenade deck on this ship. There were short areas on deck 7 but with these narrow and hemmed in with the lifeboats and most areas blocked off. There is a shorter deck area for walking on deck 17 but there is no overhead cover so not as good if it is hot or raining. The gym has lots of walking machines/treadmills but this does not match a walk enjoying the sea breeze and sound of the sea. The entertainment shows were great and very professional, meals on board were excellent, and the staff very friendly and attentive. I felt though that the ship is too big with larger passenger capacity yet reduction in personal space. Some of the specialty restaurants are multipurpose and used as cafes during day while they are open to music from piazza at night. There is a great pizza restaurant onboard (no extra cost). All up a beautiful ship but next time I would prefer to go for a smaller older ship with my beloved deck 7 Promenade escape. Read Less

This was the third time I have done this cruise, but the first on the beautiful Majestic. Also first time out of Sydney. We got down to the port early, as we were not departing port until 6.45 pm. Spent some time trawling through the market at The Rocks, before heading on board about 12.30. We werent due to embark until about 3.15, but with a Platinum card, I thought I would chance it. We has already dropped our bags earlier, so it was just getting out cards and boarding. There was no queue, and we were on in about 15 mins flat! Had lunch at the Trough, which was the only time I went there. It was set out well, very spread out. Again, not many on board, so no queues or dramas. Our cabin was well positioned and very spacious. As usual, the beds were comfy but the pillows less so, The new TV system was great, and we caught a movie before heading off to muster. Again, this was a lot less crowded than usual, with most people finding a seat or a perch. Not having to lug your life jacket was a plus. Catching the lifts afterwards was also not the usual scramble. (Travelling companion has a few mobility issues). The Atrium was beautiful, but not enough room for the popular line dancing or ball room dancing classes. Would be the only complaint in that area. A Kiwi comedian was very entertaining (cant remember his name unfortunately), as was the comedy duo Pearson and someone. I had seen them before, and found them genuinely funny both times. Think Morecome and Wise. (although they were from a group called The Kinsmen, who some Australians would know). The dining room was beautiful, and Daria, our waitress was just perfect. Very professional, kind and knowledgeable. The food portions have gone up in size, but I thought the menu was a little limited, not as much variety as there use to be. No lobster on either formal or the last night. The bomb Alaska has improved from previous sailings, as in the egg white was not as raw as previously. The only issue I would have is that the dining rooms are only open until 9am for breakfast. First sitting was at 5.15 which was great for getting to a show, but starting to get a little early. Loved the adult only areas, and there were plenty of them, including a pool. Although I didnt swim this trip and only went to the Hollywood Conservatory once. Again, a very beautiful place, although I did hear stories of people arriving early, spreading their stuff to prevent others from sharing and staying the day. Signed up for a TRX class at the gym, but this was unfortunately cancelled at the last moment as they were still selling shoe lifts/inserts. They were also a PT down. One was flown in from Dubai, and so I did the last class (only 2 were scheduled). They are getting a little expensive. The Princess Theater was lovely, but the chairs were smaller than an airline seat! A little cramped, esp when the Cruise Body starts being felt. The shows were what you would expect, but with more dramatic lighting. The costumes were stunning. Unfortunately there were only two waiters on and there was no little table or cup holder to put your drink. They really need more waiters. Also if they could offset the seats it would allow for better visibility. Didnt go to the shops, as they were all high end, Effy (which I love looking at their jewelry, but most of it is the price of another cruise, so I never buy), Cartier, and other top names. Even though the ship was large, I didnt feel as if I walked any further than usual (and I have the Cruise Body to confirm this), I also didnt feel crowded. In fact, I actually saw more people more than once than which is a little unusual for me. Overall, I found the whole experience very positive, the crew seemed a lot happier than on some of the other ships. The ship was very clean (as you would expect with a new ship), and elegant. Absolutely loved it. Read Less

Went on this ship with high expectations...travelled with husband and my parents. We were on deck 8 and they were deck 9. Both of us, midship. Between us all, we have been on more that 30 Cruises, across different cruise lines. This was our second Princess Cruise. This is our combined opinion, based on what we like and look for on a cruise ship. As cruisers, everyone looks for different things, for us this is our opinion only. The great : * ship handled the choppy sea conditions wonderfully. We had to divert from original course due to low pressure system approaching through Bass Strait. The seas weren’t the worst we have ever encountered, but it was choppy, and ship remained very smooth and stable. Best “ride” we have experienced comparing it to similar seas on other ships. * the captain was very cautious with the incoming bad weather and ensured that the ship travelled the calmest waters possible under the circumstances. Again, something we have not always seen. * Hollywood Conservatory : can’t remember its exact name. But it’s on deck 17, at front of ship. Indoor pool area with very nice separate cabanas with seating. Nicest area on the ship, and the only real open space on the ship. Has a bar. Could benefit from also having peanuts, chips etc. could not get any food from there. This is an issue with pool and spas overflowing water onto walkways there. They had a crew member permanently standing there mopping up the water. He made a comment that 2 Cruises before ours, someone had slipped in the water and been injured. The good : * internet worked okay. Isn’t cheap, but reasonably priced. Speed was fine all around the ship and in cabin. * food at the International Cafe/coffee shop is very nice. The bad : * Interenational Marketplace/buffet Deck 16 - some of us thought the food was fine, but there is not much variety, with similar meals each day. Layout of this area makes it feel very pokey, and food stations are spread across a large area with lanes up and down. The dessert area is located away from the other food area, which is strange. The area has low ceilings and narrow walkways, so it feels like all you see is lines of people walking everywhere. Not a relaxing place to sit, in our opinion. * Piazza/atrium - this was always busy and provides a sitting area and is also where the line dancing, dancing lessons, disco, painting, etc etc are held. It is a small area and with the activities going on, is not a quiet place to relax. * Princess Theatre - apparently holds 1000 people. There were 3500 people on our cruise. Had to get to show around 45 minutes before, to secure a seat. If you couldn’t get a seat, they showed the show, in another small room simulcast on a TV screen. * Princess Hi Room - this is where they simulcast the show if you don’t get a seat. This was a very small room, and this is where bingo was. Again, the room is too small. * Dining room - we only ate there 1 night. We walked in with a bottle of wine we purchased from another bar. When we sat down, the waitress questioned whether we bought it from home or onboard, as $15 corkage applies if it’s not bought from the ship. I told her, we bought it on my husbands card, she said “ are you sure”. Not s nice experience, to be accused of lying. Again, area we sat, was small and pokey, we had another table very close to ours, not private. Never went back there again. * Library - whilst not a place we would sit in, it only has 2 small tables and a few chairs. Never saw anyone even sit in there, as it’s too small. On other ships, the library is using full of people playing board games or cards. Pointless even having this area of this ship. * Coffee - I don’t drink it, but husband and parents did not like the coffee taste. You can purchase a coffee card for $36 which gives you 15 coffees and unlimited premium tea (English breakfast, chamomile etc). Coffee was no good anywhere on the ship. Overall, whilst we were on a very large ship, the guest areas were small. We have travelled on large ships before, and always felt like their weren’t a lot of people onboard. This is the first time we felt like there were too many people. Seems the focus with ship design, is to fit as many cabins as they can, at the expense of small, pokey and not enough guest areas. A lot of the guest sitting areas are cut in half with walkways through them, so all you think about when you are sitting there, is how many people are walking past you all the time. Also, the design does not bring the sea feeling into the ship. Not many big windows, and you actually feel cut off from the water. Some areas that do have windows, all you see is the closed in verandahs out the window, not water. We have never felt this on a ship previously. Whilst we enjoyed the break away, would never travel of this ship again, even if it was for free...which is saying something. Read Less

The Majestic Princess was a fantastic way to travel to Tasmania. The staff are so friendly, the food is amazing and the entertainment was excellent. Even with 3500 travellers on board you could always find a seat in the public areas. Our stateroom was well appointed and very clean. We encountered rough seas but the newer and larger ship was much smoother in the conditions than the smaller ships. The embarkation and disembarkation process was very quick and efficient. The adults only area with cabanas and a pool was included in the price. A great area to chill out. Our ports of Hobart and Port Arthur were very interesting places to visit with so much history. The tender service to and from the ship to Port Arthur was run very smoothly. It was lovely to have 2 nights in Hobart to explore the city at night. I would definitely recommend this ship to travel on. Princess is ahead in so many ways. Read Less

Main reason to travel was a "new ship" This should be reliable and meet our expectations. The ship was majestic and magnificent but mellowed in a few areas. Dining food was wet 60% of the time due to standing time. This means 40% was excellent. I measured this against Caribbean and Cunard where their food was very consistent Waiting to attend the theatre was potential safety issue because of crowd rushing to get seats in a theatre which was narrow walk ways and sit down space was like being on a cheap long haul flight. Designer of ships please note. 80% of all problems normally relate to poor design of one thing or another The one area which must be upto standard are beds, my bed sagged after 8 days, which caused my back to ache. Beds on ships must be commercial grade. I took plenty of shots of the ships, so it must have appealed to me. Read Less

We chose this cruise to experience the Majestic princess and we were not disappointed. Embarking was very quick and efficient as was disembarking. The ship is beautiful. The decor is lovely and not over the top. The entertainment was great. The food was good with enough variety and the staff was very accommodating if you wanted to change or add anything to your meal. I liked the new look in the Fresh Market dinning option and thought there was a good variety to choose from. Enjoyed the International cafe. It was very popular so was sometimes hard to find a seat. I especially enjoyed the adult only pool and Hollywood conservatory area. The decor was lovely and I found it very relaxing. We had some rough seas and strong winds but the ship was very stable and comfortable. Overall I would rate my cruise as very relaxing and would highly recommend Majestic Princess. Read Less
