I was very excited to see the Symphony having cruised two of her older sisters. There were some challenges with drop-off and parking exacerbated by traveling with two handicapped people. The new terminal is very modern and made for a fairly smooth embarkation. I felt like improvements could be made for handicapped cruisers by up front assistance and special lines, priority curbside drop-off as well as with better signage, for example to the elevators. The ship is beautiful but almost identical to the others in this class with minor exceptions and set apart mainly by art work which is very cool. The cabin design changes were not an improvement to me. Far less shelving for storing things other than clothing. It felt cluttered once we unpacked. Guess I will need an over the door shoe organizer going forward. The dining room was way crowded and hard to navigate with a scooter. The table assigned to 10 was barely comfortable enough for 8. Especially with 3 handicapped people at our table. They could not accommodate moving us at all and it caused one couple in our group to get moved alone, while others chose not to eat in MDR. The service was not perfect but overall excellent however the food was inconsistent and disappointing at times. Read Less

My friend and I decided to go on this cruise because we wanted to experience the largest cruise ship. Getting on and off the ship was the smoothest process i have ever experienced. We just walked right onto the ship after sailing through security after the cruise we did self disembarkation and walked off with our luggage. It took 5 minutes to go through customs and we were in front getting a taxi. The ship did not disappoint. The entertainment was amazing! The hairspray cast wss a new cast and they did an absolute fabulous job. The food was really good although my friend and I wished they had changed the buffet a little more for dinner. There were so many things to do on the ship we were never bored. We tried so many new things in the ship such as the abyss, flow rider, water slides and zip line. The staff were very nice when we told then that this was our first time trying these activities and explained it really well. I especially liked the staff on the flow rider they were very helpful when my friend and I told them this was our first time trying it. The cruise excursions were also very well planned. It was very easy to walk off and join our tour group on the pier. Overall, I would love to go on another royal carribean ship because this was one of tbe best vacations I have ever been on!! My wife selected this cruise to experience the new Royal Caribbean Symphony of the Seas. We've cruised RC on inaugural/early cruises for all the Anthem and Quantum class ships. The new boarding experience is much faster and exceptional and we boarded in record time with many fewer annoyances. Symphony does not depart from the standard of quality we've come to expect from the ships of the larger RC fleet. The form, fit, and finish of ship's accoutrements does not disappoint, and it presents itself as a world class cruising experience. The attitude and pitch control of the boat is well executed and provides a low deck pitching experience. The shear size of the ship helps to provide a smooth "ride" during rougher seas. As expected, the crew is exceptionally well trained, attentive, and helpful. We spotted several experienced crew members from previous RC ships that we've cruised. To have access to a bath tub, we booked room 9626 a starboard Junior Spa Suite more than a year ago. The friendly attentive stateroom attendant kept the room clean, neat and tidy, and did his work in timely fashion and did not interfere with our use of the room. We purchased VOOM internet and found that we could connect almost everywhere on the ship. Its speed was not fast enough to prevent video stuttering. Our main dining room wait staff were professional, attentive, friendly, humorous, and hard working and did their best to please us. The quality of the food in the main dining room varied from evening to evening. Most food items were good. Foods that disappointed including overly baked potatoes, overly fatty strip steaks, under-cooked, hard, nearly raw vegetables, and frost burned sugar free ice cream with a sandy texture. We were also disappointed that it was not made obvious that our junior spa suite class allowed dining in the upscale Coastal Kitchen during supper time. We were invited to attend a Suite upgrade seminar by the Next Cruise staff in which we found out about our eligibility for dining in the Coastal Kitchen in the evenings. We promptly made reservations for the only remaining time of 8:30 PM. We greatly enjoyed the food and staff there. The grade of sugar free ice cream served there was superb, In the future, if we stayed in a suite, we would switch our evening dining location to the Coastal Kitchen for the superior food items. The ship is simply beautiful we had a great time a lot of activities to enjoy the pub was awesome sports bar awesome however the dining room and the wind jammer food was not great. Specialty dining, very expensive was $57 per person they are adding on 18% gratuity along with the fee now! They are also charging for room service all day $7.95 per call with 18% gratuity comes to about $10 every time you call room service and it takes almost an hour! Boy have things changed and not for the best; regarding the crew service a lot of the crew on their cell phones not attending to the cruisers. The wind jammer food was horrible it all seem to be crockpot food ! We found ourselves walking around and around in circles with the empty plate and then just deciding well we’ll just put something on the plate to eat. We are Diamond members with Royal Caribbean and we were very disappointed however the ship was beautiful and a lot of activities for family . The best food on the ship to us was the hotdog cart the Coney Island hot dogs were truly amazing and I’m not a hotdog person !! Getting off the ship was smooth and easy Read Less

This was my first time on one of the Oasis Class Ships and I must say that it was incredible. I enjoyed the activities, dining options, and entertainment. There were just so many things to see and do on the ship. Things started a little rough on the first day but it got better. On my first day, I did not receive my internet access code in my room, or my invite to the Meet and Mingle - registered online over a year ago, purchased my WowBand and it didn't work - had to go back downstairs and stand in the long line with others who had the same problem, no information in my room for Johnny Rocket for Boardwalk Balcony guests, and the show 1977 was canceled due to technical problems. All of the issues were resolved and things got better and better. Cabin- I stayed in a boardwalk balcony which was pretty nice. I was told that there shouldn't be a lot of noise, but that wasn't true. I could hear noise in my room from the games below me in Playmakers during Thanksgiving week - didn't bother me. I could also hear noise, with my door closed, from the Hiro Show, and band playing on the boardwalk. All and all, the experience was good, but I will probably stick to a regular balcony stateroom. Dining- No major complaints. I ate in the main dinning room, buffet, Park Café, El Loco Fresh, and Johnny Rockets. I liked breakfast at Johnny Rockets. Enjoyed dinner at Chops and lunch at Jamie's Italian. Entertainment- I thought the shows were fantastic. My favorites were 1977, Hair Spray, and then Hiro and Flight. I thoroughly enjoyed the surprise acapella men's group Mosaic - they were fantastic. Service- Service was pretty good. Ship was well maintained. Fitness- Very nice gym and outdoor track. The café was nice, too. Read Less

Sailed on Harmony year before last for Thanksgiving and had a really nice time...same for Symphony, a really nice not a great time! The ship itself is awesome, my stateroom attendant was superb and so was my assistant waiter. The food in the dining room and Windjammer was ok..soo much has changed over the past few years. Service is not consistent, however, the shows are the best ever! Hairspray was phenomenal, Hiro was fantastic! I must say that the cheesecake was the best, I had in a long time.Drinks...way overpriced, Wonderland and Izumi were terrific! I guess what I’m saying is that it appears that if you want great food and better service you have to go to specialty dining. Don’t get me wrong you won’t go hungry and there is plenty to go around. Found a lot of staff talking on their cell phones and just giving everyone the bare minimum . I am a diamond plus member and when I see how things have changed it just hurts a little l believe in progress and Symphony has a lot to offer, I just feel it was at the expense of the things that made cruising great! If you are new to cruising you will love this ship it has plenty to offer, if you already have your sea legs...you wil know what I’m talking about. All in all my Thanksgiving was was a good time with friends old and new. Read Less

Went away with 12 people for my moms and aunts 60th birthday. Age ranges from 4-64. My family (4 of us) first time on RCI, rest have all been on Allure. The new terminal is unreal. From shuttle to ship in 10 mins. No joke. We were on by 11:15 so had plenty of time to explore before the rooms were ready. First impressions of ship were amazing. Everything is laid out pretty nice. Elevators are always accessable. After a day, you get it down pretty good. Did the Zip line since there was no line yet. Looks cooler on TV. I expected to go further. It was still a cool thing to do. We had a balcony on 14th floor. Hated the kids set up. By the door, pull out bed. My wife still can’t believe Disney is the only line that has a sheet to separate the areas. The location and set up means once that bed is out, you can’t get to the balcony which sucks if you want to read and relax out there when your kids go to bed. Speaking of kids, the kids club was meh. Not very big. Not much going on. I’ll give it a pass since we didn’t go back but the first experience didn’t make it so my kids wanted to. Another thing that drove us and other parents nuts. The slides in the kids water area. They’re not for kids!!!! Given my daughter is 4 1/2 and short but for her to not be able to use the slides was infuriating. 42”?! They’re two small slides. The fricken Abyss is 46. Thankfully she was a trooper with it but come on, how you going to put two slides in a kid area and say kids can’t use them!? Speaking of slides, they’re all awesome. The abyss is crazy. The pool ones are so much fun. Especially the Green one. Since we had a large group we did my time dining and did MDR every night. We’ve been on 12 cruises. This was by far the worst food of any. The lack of options every night (lots of repeats), portion sizes and quality were very sub par for a cruise. The service was not very good either but got better each night (I heard a lot of people were unhappy). The lobster tails were serverly overcooked and you needed a hacksaw to get the meat out. I get they want you to spend more money in the other places but that’s not an option with a large group and kids. We didn’t do anything in Cozumel since there was a marathon going on and didn’t want to deal with traffic. Stayed on the boat which was nice bc it was quiet at the pools. Oh, shout out to the “stowaway piano” player who just randomly shows up in elevators. I think my 7 year old daughter had a crush on him. We had to search him out every night. You haven’t lived til you belted out some Billy Joel in an elevator with 10 other passengers. Entertainment wise, we just made it to Hiro which was impressive. Don’t usually care for shows on ships but this one is worth getting to. Lots of stuff to do throughout the days. Hit a few hunts and trivias. Best party we went to was Hush in The Attic. Where thy give everyone head phones and two DJs play music you can switch to. Nothing playing in the club. Just awful dialing singing voices going back and forth. Gotta check that out. Quest was hilarious. Solarium is very relaxing though some passengers can’t read and brought their kids in. Bottom line, this ship is incredible. Always something to do. In four days, the only time I spent in my room was to get dressed and sleep. Read Less

Family cruise to celebrate teen bday—lots to do for her. She loved it. The shows were amazing. The free included food was not as good as other cruises. The cheese plate for our sit down dinner included old grapes, celery, cheddar, Brie and blue cheese that were gross. The juice bar at the spa is not complimentary but worth the cost. I had a pedicure it was fine. 30 bucks more than my salon back home and equal in quality. I booked a 50 min massage. I arrived 15 min early to relax. At check in the 2 women behind the desk were talking to 2 other spa employees about another client. I stood there waiting for them to acknowledge me. After a minute they asked my cabin number and then began to gesture to where I could wait. I asked for a robe and slippers. They seemed annoyed and handed me a key and opened the ladies room across the hall. There was no robe in the locker and disgusting plastic slippers that were too small. I walked back to the desk and they brought me a robe. I went and put it on and discovered I would need to go back to the same public hallway. There was a couple at the desk so I waited a d was escorted to the waiting room—filled to capacity with people of all ages many in street clothes. Nobody offered me a beverage. There was water self serve but it was unflavored and nearly empty. I went back to the desk surprised the waiting area was coed with no ocean view and rather ordinary chairs. They said that was all there was and nobody else complained that it was coed. The massage therapist was 10 minutes late and although I told her I was seeing a show and would only have 10 min to change and get there she did not seem to care. The massage was avg She did not ask if I had any areas of soreness or how I liked the lighting or temp in room. Read Less

WOW, Royal has amped up the WOW factor on Symphony. Just got off the Inaugural 4 day cruise on Symphony Nov. 9-13. This will be a general review of Symphony with numerous pictures. For a more detailed review of my cruise dates look at BirdTravels and for a very detailed review of Symphony, look for Twangster’s trans Atlantic review. For a more detailed look at an Oasis Class ship with more pictures see my review of the Oasis, “Oasis 3/22-29/14, so so writing, pretty good pictures, very pretty girls.” If you have been on any other Oasis class ship the Symphony will look almost identical. While I did not go to every corner of the ship I noticed some changes. A new venue Playmaker’s in the space across the Boardwalk from Johnny Rockets. It is a sports bar with numerous TV’s and a great place to watch a game. The food there is really good, hamburger and shrimp stood out. Also small changes in Central Park and some changes to the menu’s of certain Specialty restaurants. We arrived to Terminal A on a shuttle from Dollar Rent A Car from the Miami Airport (excellent shuttle). We got to the terminal around 1:30PM and had no problem with traffic at the port. Terminal A is brand new and so well done. There are no check in desks, you go to an agent to process your Sea Pass. SO, if you are a good person and have filled out your information prior to arriving and have your Set Sail Pass, I am here to tell you that it will take you maybe 5 minutes from the time you enter the beautiful terminal to the time you walk onto Deck 5 and the Amazing Symphony of the Seas. As usual the ship feels a little crowded at the start of day 1 but by that evening you do not feel like you are on board with almost 6,000 fellow passengers. Debarkation is not as bad as you would think. We exited the ship around 9, with our luggage. Though there was a line to exit the terminal going past customs the line moved very freely and quickly. If you have a US passport they use a face recognition system that is so cool, no papers to fill out, just smile and off you go!!! THE SHOWS We went to the ice show 1977, Hairspray, Hiro (aqua show) Flight, the adults Comedy show was funny (Adult is the word). Each show was so worth going to see. The story line of the Ice show I have to say was a little hard to follow (as was the opinion of some of the people we talked to on the ship) but the individual performances were so good. Make sure you get there for the opening number! I have seen Hairspray before but the singing and acting on this production was the best I have seen (as good as if you saw it on Broadway). Hiro was of course a highlight as the aqua shows always are. FLIGHT was perhaps the most enjoyable for me and my wife. A story of aviation and flight from the Wright Brothers to a “Mars Trip” told in reverse order. This was a total beautiful original production. A must see! THE FOOD We had dinner in the speciality restaurants. Hook, 150 Park, Wonderland, and an invite to Coastal Kitchen. Breakfast and lunch we went to the MDR for the buffet side of the restaurant. Breakfast on the buffet side was excellent. Made to order omelettes, waffles, multiple options of other tasty items. For lunch we enjoyed the chopped salad and saw many other passengers enjoying the varied options on the buffet. We stuck with the salads knowing that dinners would be food heavy. Hook is a new venue for Royal and for us was a hit. We went on the first evening and the fish was wonderful. The entire menu was well done and varied. 150 Park was a little different from the first time we went to one. Michael Schwartz was the executive chef of 150 Park and now no longer is associated with the restaurant. The choices at 150 Park were so amazing. Table side made martini’s, Caesar salads made table-side as well. We sat with friends and each one of us really enjoyed our dinner there. Wonderland is a WONDER. We were a party of ten and had each item on the menu at our table. Each bite was so flavorful and prepared to perfection (as was each item we had at all the specialty restaurants). The “Mad Hatter” patrolling the dinning room was a hoot. He was so entertaining as whimsical and the center of Wonderland. This is one restaurant that is so different from anything you would go to that if I had to pick one specialty restaurant to dine in this would be the one. Coastal Kitchen is available only to Suite guests and Pinnacle status, and we were an invited guest. As exclusive as it is, it is that special. Menu changes every day, I guess to those able to dine here can go every day and have a different experience. Our experience was exceptional!! Each dish was perfectly prepared. We were a party of 6 and each one of us enjoyed our meal. This was a bad thing for my wife and I as we were so impressed with the food and service that on our next cruise, I guess it is “Suite Time”. All in all this was a great vacation. The ship to us was the destination and we only got off in Cozumel for a very short period of time. Book this ship, go to all the shows, enjoy the daily activities and nightlife and have the time of your life!! Read Less

We chose this ship because of previous experience with the Oasis Class. We have sailed on all of them and have really enjoyed the vacation. The ship is beautiful and we experienced, as always the wonderful Royal Caribbean service. Our cabin was a Junior Suite which for us was big enough and gave us ample room to move around. There was a walk-in closet which was also big enough for our clothing, shoes, and to store our luggage. Dining was very good although for the more casual dining at the Windjammer it was a bit crowded and you had to walk around to find a table. There were other alternatives but the majority of the people went to the Windjammer for breakfast and lunch. Another good thing the ship has is a variety of foods to chose from and all the complimentary restaurants are great. The specialty restaurants have to be reserved in advance otherwise you will not be able to reserve once on the ship. We wanted to reserve on Hooked which is their new Sea food restaurant and they were already booked for the next four months. We finally opted for the 150 Central Park and were disappointed. The wait was too long and the food was not all that great. For the entertainment and activities there are so many things to choose from that sometimes it is hard to decide when and which one to go to, the good thing is that they have several showings and repeat activities that you can really schedule them around your favorites. Many of the shows also need reservations, remember there are a lot of guests on this ship. I find it easier to book the shows, activities and fill out the waivers needed for some activities on-line which saves you time and disappointment. The service, as I have experienced on all Royal Caribbean cruises, is excellent, they really want to make you feel pampered and that you are the most important guest on board. One of the most outstanding things that my husband and I found was the ease of debarkation. They have conquered the problem of the most annoying part of a cruise, trying to get all those people that are tired, don't want to leave, but want to be the first ones off the ship out in an organized and timely manner. You have to be there to believe this process it is incredible. Now that I have given an idea of the ideal cruise I will tell you that I'm looking forward to going again and as soon as possible.
