I’m a frequent cruiser on carnival and go into my vacations wanting to have a fun time and also relax, and not really look for a lot of things to get upset about. Overall this ship was one of my favorite carnival ships. Pros: 1.the staff was amazing, and some of the nicest we’ve experienced. Rodrigo was our stateroom attendant and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed all week. My boyfriend also loved Mukesh at the casino, and actually had a hot streak at the blackjack table. Everyone we encountered worked very hard and were friendly. So major kudos to them. 2. The entertainment on this ship is top notch. Schwartz the cruise director was hands down the best cruise director we’ve had. Also the playlist performers were great, and were so glad they added the band back to the shows, it makes a huge difference. This was the first ship I didn’t have to drag my boyfriend to the shows, he was actually excited to go with me. Also the thrill theater and imax theaters are great additions. 3. The food/dining experience. We did the “your time dining” for the first time. If you download the carnival hub app, you can request a table from there and just go directly to the restaurant when your table is ready. We never waited more than 15 minutes for a table, and when the wait was longer we would go to alchemy bar to enjoy a drink and just wait there. Also the steakhouse is a must try!! Cons:1. debarktation is the only reason I couldn’t rank the vacation 5 stars. Granted it wasn’t completely the ships fault we had a weather delay that caused us to get to port a hour later than expected. Once at port though it took another 2 hours of just waiting in the hallways before we could get off the ship. 2. It was a very minor con, but we really missed the glass elevators at the atrium. Without the elevators it felt like something was missing from the ship. Overall the vista is a great ship. Read Less

We have done multiple Carnival cruises and always been in awe and happy while on cruise. Being that the Vista was the newest in fleet, we expected to be in the same awe. Not the case. Lets start with layout. Vista is by far the most closed ship in fleet. The grand entrance and awe walking on deck 3, gone. The open walk ways, gone. All closed off or confined. Lido deck seemed smaller for such a large ship. Cabin Steward qnd dining waiter was great. The breakfast brunch, we waited over 25 minutes to get water. I had to stop a waiter to get served. Plays were subpar. The Liquid Lounge is small and most spots have horrible or blocked views. Was very disappointed in the overall cruise. We suppose to leave a cruise relaxed, but ended up leaving very disappointed. The Horizon is coming out and unfortunately it will be one that we will not be interested getting on. Read Less

I will try to keep this short and sweet and the really wordy reviews are hard to read. Frequent cruiser and first time on Carnival Vista. Pros: Everything is fairly new so the ship doesn't look worn yet. Many more lounges and finally a new layout which was nice to see they tried. The pizza was better, the staff was great. Love the new photo changes where you look at everything digitally and paper waste is gone. Internet mid tier was fast and reliable. Abundant food options. Cons: Again this is just my opinion. The ship while bigger has much lower ceilings everywhere. Very little is open, if you like the big open promenade on Royal Caribbean you will hate this ship. The foyer now is only 3 decks tall, where older ships they foyer goes up to the 9th or 10th deck. They used the extra space for the new thrill and IMAX theater. Much smaller lounges for both comedy and the main theater. They took out mass amounts of space in both and if you have ever traveled on Carnival before you now how early you needed to get to either to get a seat, well now it is even worse with much smaller space. Steakhouse- no more great bread with the multiple different dips and spreads, they put a cold plate down in front of you and then place your hot foot and place it on it now. No more meat cart rolled out like they use to do. Decor is not as fancy as it was on other ships. Dining Room- the decor is very 70's to me. Yellow short back chairs, brown wood paneling, no feeling or elegance like on other ships. Very boring decor is the best way to describe it. A shame they decided to bore this space down. Lido- I know some people like the new buffet and seating design. For us it felt closed in. Elevators as others mentioned were very hard to get. In short Vista added more but those extra options all came with an extra cost. You can tell some accountant helped design the ship and pointed out how X and Y extra space on older ships could be converted to more space and that's what they did. It is a bigger ship that feels so much smaller and cramped. This ship removed all of the luxurious feel and replaced it with Brady Bunch decor. If you liked 70's orange and yellows you will love this ship. Read Less

This was our first cruise on the Vista and we loved it! We arrived in Galveston the day before we set sail. We stayed at the Springhill Suites. No complaints. We had dinner at Shrimp N Stuff. The food was excellent! We parked at the Falstaff Parking Garage and they shuttled us to the port. I highly recommend this place. Their service is superb! Once we made it to the port, embarkation was a breeze. We had a deluxe ocean view cabin on deck 1. We really like the extra bathroom. Our room steward was Renell. We met him on the morning of the second day. We didn't have to introduce ourselves because he already knew our names. We told him we only needed service once a day. He told us if we changed our mind or needed anything to let him know and he would take care of it. He let us keep all of our towel animals in the window for the entire duration of the cruise. We thought the food was the best we've ever had on a cruise ship! We had anytime dining. We were very fortunate to have Toshe' and his assistants as our servers in the dining room. We had no problems with service on this ship. Ayi was our go to bartender on the lido deck and in the limelight lounge and liquid lounge. He was always there to make sure we had a cold drink in our hand. Errol was our bartender in the Ocean Plaza. He always had a smile on his face. The entertainment was excellent! Matt Mitcham is the absolute best cruise director! The fun squad made sure everyone was having fun. We loved Lydia & Brandon and the rest of Hasta la Vista. They were amazing along with the rocking strings and horn group. All of the shows were fantastic! We enjoyed the comedy club and thought that the host, Houston, was very entertaining! Our first stop was Montego Bay. We purchased the Hop on Hop off shuttle with our sail and sign card at the port. I don't think we will do this again. Too much confusion. Our second stop was Grand Cayman. We went diving/snorkeling at Eden Rock. It's an easy walk from the port. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The diving/snorkeling there is phenomenal! When we done, we did some shopping and then had lunch at Rackems. The food was good, service was great, and the view was amazing! We also snorkeled there. Our last stop was Cozumel. We took a taxi to Chanknaab. We've been there plenty of times and it is our favorite place in Cozumel. There is so much to do and it is very beautiful! Debarkation wasn't as smooth as embarkation, but that is common. If everyone would follow the rules and wait until it is their time to get off, I believe it wouldn't be a problem. We really enjoyed our cruise on the Vista! We did not find the elevators to be a problem for us. My only complaint is that the seating in the Liquid Lounge is terrible, if you don't get there early. We are looking forward to sailing on the Vista again! Read Less

7-day Western Carib sail; just my wife and I and first time on Carnival; comparing to 7 other lines we’ve sailed including RCI, Disney, Princess, Celebrity, then 3 luxury carriers. Good: food that we chose including Steakhouse ($$$), Seafood Shack ($), Blue Iguana, and Guy’s Burgers was EXCELLENT! I was actually surprised at how good those choices were. The night-show entertainment was very good. The cruise director, Matt, was (our opinion) the best on any cruise we’ve been on. Our cabin (Ocean Suite) was very comfortable and was kept very clean and well stocked. Not as good: the YourTime reservation/dining system that Carnival employs is, in a word, ridiculous! You have to line up on Deck 5 ... no, that’s not to eat; that’s just to make a reservation to eat! You can’t call for a table ... it’s just stupid. The buffet, in the evening, is very limited. Finally, general service is not stressed. Not once was either of our coffee cups refilled. Also, coffee machines are frequently out of service so, you hunt for coffee. One shout out ... Francis in JavaBlue was awesome. He opened early almost daily for a few early risers. Read Less

We were excited to cruise on this new ship and loved it until we needed an elevator. If you book this ship get ready to climb a lot of stairs most of the time. These mega ships are getting bigger and bigger, which makes for excitement but it ends up being irritating because there are just way too many people. Lines for everything makes it less than pleasant. The one great aspect with this ship is the buffet seating. There is plenty of seating and it is arranged perfectly. We did a back to back cruise and our first embarkment onto the ship was great. The disembarkment and embarkment for our second week was tedious. By the time they had us get off, which was over 90 minutes of waiting, they already were loading guests onto the ship and we should have already been onboard. The disembarkment at the end of our second week was an absolute nightmare and horrible. Read Less

We really wanted to try the newest ship Carnival had to offer, and were pretty excited about it. I spent 3 days reading the hundreds of reviews on here, a month before we left, so I was prepared, and let me just verify that the running theme in the reviews are pretty accurate! This was a family vacation for me and my husband and our 3 kids, my parents and my brother. We hadn't vacationed together in over 8 years! That said, imagine the extreme anger and shock when my brother was DENIED being able to board because he thought he didn't need his birth certificate. My dad had misread the information and thought it wasn't needed. Now I know it is a must, BUT my brother has cruised multiple times with Carnival over the last 20 years, which is in their system as we each have a VIFP number. We couldn't understand why they couldn't allow him on board with this information in addition to his drivers license. To make matters worse we were forced to choose to board between 1:30 and 2, so there was no time for him to drive home and get the birth certificate. They said they would even accept seeing a picture of it, but my family didn't think of asking my adult daughter, who chose to stay home, to do this. So my poor brother had to go home :-(. The first day walking the halls of the Family Harbor , my heart sank, there were food and food stains on all the bottoms of the walls and carpet. My first impression was that the ship was dirty. When we made it to our room my suspicions were on point, there was crusted food stains in several places on the carpet, walls were dirty, everything was covered in a layer of dust, the toilet seat cover had poop splatter :-( , there were suspicious brown splatters on the bathroom walls, weird orange crust on the wall underneath our towels, AND the bath tub edges were full of mold/mildew, and that half bath smelt like it as well. To add insult to injury our cabin steward failed to properly prepare our room: we had no menu, no pen (which was annoying when we needed to fill out our disembarking tags) no welcome papers, no identifiable waters for us as repeat cruisers, and my luggage was not delivered until after 7pm...5 hours after we boarded. I spent the first 30 minutes cleaning my room with hand sanitizer and Lysol spray (travel size). I tried scrubbing out all the food stains, turning the small hand towel black :-/. Not the best start to a vacation. I have a nut allergy and my baby has a dairy intolerance, and as such eating anywhere but the main dining room was difficult. The first day we were reduced to eating ONLY turkey lunch meat after we boarded (as pizza is the only food available 24 hours). Guy's Burgers is a possibility, but twice they put garlic butter on the bun after being told of a dairy allergy..this could kill someone. Lido deck food is a hazard for allergy sufferers..when they make turkey and add nuts to it..WHY? I was pleased that I was able to order dinner in advance so they could prepare it special. Even making dessert. The first night's dessert was an amazing dairy free nut free chocolate mousse. Then the chef got lazy and tried serving horrible lime sorbet two nights in a row (Our server told me it was not right for him to do that) and then made a nasty custard. She asked me if I liked the dessert and when I said no (in a nice way) she reminded me it was hard to make dairy free desserts. At first I agreed. But then I remembered that I myself, who is not a chef, can make delicious brownies, cakes, frostings, cookies, and breads that are dairy and nut free in like an hours time. He could have made any of those things!!! Dr. Suess breakfast was fun, and I was SO EXCITED that me and the kids could eat allergen free pancakes! My son took a bite and immediately spit it out, I went and took a bite and my tongue died...pancake tasted so bitter. SO DISAPPOINTED, another lazy chef! Making pancakes requires four things..flour, soy milk or any milk, heck even water, sugar, and oil..it is NOT hard. There were a lot of friendly workers, but also many that weren't friendly, but rather seemed annoyed. One bartender "forgot" to make my drink when my husband didn't add an extra tip ..they now automatically charge 15% gratuity...even though he stood right there. She simply started cleaning the bar area.. Whenever I ordered room service the lady sounded annoyed as if I were bothering her. Our room steward cornered us on the last night while we were on our way to dinner and had my husband fill out the satisfaction questionnaire as he stood there and watched. Kinda hard to put that his service sucked at that point. I am confused as I always saw another person preparing to clean our room while he stood in the hallway?? While taking professional pictures the photographer tried to call my kids so they would look at the camera, at one point he yelled in frustration. This unprofessional behavior resulted in our disgust, as our youngest children are only 5 and 2! A lot of dirty dishes and silverware on this cruise ship, which was annoying. Also I saw many talked about the water on here. Sometimes the water had that chlorine smell or taste, which can be normal. BUT one night my parents noticed the water smelled and tasted like fish. I told them I had recently watched a documentary about the Vista cruise ship and learned that they use sea water for drinking water and showering etc. They have a whole desalting and purifying system on board. So we concluded that something wasn't done 100 percent that day. Since my parents joined us on this cruise we all wanted to sit together and we requested this from the Maitre D. This resulted in a lot of frustration and confusion, granted we all missed eating in the dining room the first night. However the following night the Maitre D told us we would have to sit in 'your time dining' to have a table that fit us all (party of 7). He PERSONALLY walked us to the Reflections dining room and brought us to a table for 10, and informed us this was to be our set table every night. Apparently he forgot to notify the staff of this as they gave us a hard time about..in a nice way of course. They said we would have to request the table, so we did so the following night, only to be told we could not request any table, as it was basically first come first served. This really annoyed my dad. We eventually were given a table for 8 that we were able to sit at for the duration of the cruise. Ports of call: The only issue was that they did not allow enough time for Montego Bay Jamaica, or Grand Cayman, leaving at 3:45 and 1:45 respectively. Yeah we were annoyed but we still had fun and enjoyed ourselves. Next cruise will be with Royal Caribbean! Read Less

My family and I (all 10 of us) boarded the Vista on Nov. 4th for a seven day cruise. I was anxious to see Carnivals new ship after reading some of the reviews I was not sure what to expect. I must say I did not find anything really to complain about like so many of the reviews I had read prior to boarding the ship. I found the ship to be very clean, comfortable and exciting. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The food in MDR was delicious. Actually everything that we ate on the ship was very good. JiJi’s Asian Kitchen was fabulous as was the 555 steak house. Farmer the band was entertaining and played the kind of country music that we like. My wife said that she thought the spa was a little small, I never went in there even though we had a spa balcony room (11226), the room was great, plenty of closet and drawer space, we enjoyed the balcony very much. The serenity deck is fantastic, lots of space and lounges, the sea day salad bar on the serenity deck is very nice. My only complaint I guess would be that disembarking seemed quite unorganized. Hopefully they will get that worked out. Overall this was as usual a very enjoyable cruise. We already have two more booked. Read Less

This was our tenth Carnival cruise. We always take the grandmas who are in 80's and 90's. When I booked the Vista, I thought I was getting an ADA room for grandma in wheelchair. I did not realize that the Vista has different 'tiers' of ADA rooms. (I don't think the other ships have these tiers of ADA but I could be wrong). Long story short, grandma was in a room with a step into bathroom and shower, which would not work. We went down to guest services to see what could be done. Next day, they had arranged for a fabulous ADA room which worked out great! BIG! ADA cabin #10204 Forward -- highly recommend. We cannot express our appreciation enough to the staff at guest services for arranging a safe place for 91 year old grandma in wheelchair!! THANK YOU CARNIVAL! EVERY staff member we encountered from Guest Services to cleaning crews in the kitchens went out of their ways to greet us and see if they could do anything to help make our trip better. They all work very long hours and extremely hard. Make sure you leave a tip for the room cabin cleaners, if you can. We had a reserved table in the Horizons main dining room. The wait staff, Bogdan and Valentyn worked with grandma and her dietary restrictions and made her feel so special! They were impeccable with their jobs--WOW! The food we had in the dining room was great every meal and also the sea day brunches. The bands were the best we have encountered on a cruise before--the Horn group, the Violin Trio, and the Hasta la Vista Band ALL were first class musicians and singers....we went every night where they were playing--AMAZING! Went to the Cayman Spirits Rum Factory, just took a cab from the port--very informative and entertaining! We are so happy with Carnival Vista, we have already booked another cruise on her for next year! Read Less
