Met at airport with private ride to hotel. Easy check in. Down side fast train from Paris to Dijon turned into a 4 hour bus ride because trains were on strike. Food was good, 2 hour dinners got tiring however they do offer a lighter meal in lounge most nights which was a good alternative. Last 2 days of cruise they had cookout on deck for lunch as an alternate option. City tours for most part ...
I have always wanted to go to France and see both the countryside and the city but didn't think it's was possible until my boyfriend found this cruise on Avalon. It was wonderful. Everyplace we went there was something interesting to see and do (I'm a bit of history bluff and France has a huge history that goes back 1000s of years). The cruise size was also attractive to me -- approximately 110 ...
Our cruise upstream on the Rhone was perfect. It is a part of France that is less known but the off ship excursions were consistently interesting and the local guides very knowledgeable and also added many personal anecdotes to add to the official history. In particular we enjoyed the tours of Perouges and Beanne, but all were worthwhile.
On the ship we were spoiled by consistently high ...
Traveled with two other couples; found the trip fascinating, from the bullet train ride to the daily small group tours through Central and Southern French cities and towns. The river trip itself was fun and relaxing. Our cabin gave us plenty of space, and being able to open our door to the outside made it feel even more expansive. Plenty of room to store everything, and attention from the crew ...
We chose this cruise because we went on Avalon Tranquility 2 in July and loved it so much. We booked this cruise for some late Summer sun - unfortunately we chose the wrong week for this. The two nights in Paris allowed us to make the most of a great location near the Champs Elysee. A magnificent hotel and a good room made this a great start for the holiday. The TGV ride to Dijon was also ...
Wonderful chance to see countryside. Great tour guides, small groups, reasonably priced optional excursions. Unfortunately the two wine excursions we did while being very informative suffered because the wines were not very good. Nevertheless I would still recommend them because the countryside is so beautiful. Wonderful ship looks brand new with lots of storage in cabin. Beds were at angle ...
We had a wonderful experience on Poetry II.
The intercontinental hotel in Nice was fabulous. We were right on the The Mediterranean and had a lovely time befor we got on the ship. We also stayed in the Intercontinental in Paris and that was equally as nice and in a wonderful location.
Once on the ship the room food was excellent, the staff outstanding and the excursions were ...
I always do a lot of research before we take any trip. This was our second European river cruise and our first time with Avalon. I would definitely sail with them again. However the two things that were not great were the dinner menu choices and our particular cabin. (see below)
The food was nicely prepared and the wait staff was terrific, but the dinner menu was lacking in good choices. We ...
Every aspect of the cruise met or exceeded our expectations. Will recommend to others.
Wonderful chance to see countryside. Great tour guides, small groups, reasonably priced optional excursions. Wonderful ship looks brand new with lots of storage in cabin. Cabin service was prompt. Beds were at angle that made movement in the cabin relatively easy. Food was good with the "Bistro" dinner the ...
We chose this cruise for the itinerary through France's historic cities, the views and the opportunities to learn about and enjoy French wines. We were not disappointed from the pre-cruise cocktail party where we immediately made new friends and stayed in a beautiful, high-quality Paris hotel. Our Paris tour guide, Phillipe, was knowledgeable and witty and gave us great ideas for seeing more of ...
