We had never done a river cruise and had heard from others that Viking was a good choice. We loved the smaller scale of being on a river cruise and the staff to cruisers ratio. Our original ship, the Lif was diverted just two days before our 3-week trip, to replace a Viking ship that hit and sunk a sightseeing boat in Budapest (28 lives lost).
