The staff was courteous, fun, friendly, helpful, accommodating and kind. My room always sparkled. Room service was in the time frame stated. And the entertainment was top notch. They were great talents. The comedians brought down the house. The lounge singers were hypnotic! I had an incredible memorable time!!!!!!!!!!! And as a solo single gal traveller I felt completely safe as well. The excursions were informative, educational and inspiring ( I selected excursions that were geared toward the arts and culture and they definitely delivered) I was overjoyed with every aspect of my excursion experience. The memories are so rich and enriching that I'm still elated thinking of it. If I absolutely had to think of any criticism is that I do wish more ships has solo cruiser rates ( but I understand that that's not the norm for the cruise industry... while I would love it! I just planned accordingly ). And in regards to the menu as a vegan and gluten free traveller I appreciated their efforts so much and hope that they will continue to grow in that area so that there is even greater variety of entrees that incorporate both. Overall great job!!! Read Less

We took this cruise because it was convenient to where we live and we wanted to experience the Mexican Pacific coast. The cruise started off well but the food was of poor quality. The instant mashed potatoes had the consistency of applesauce. Meats were either well over-cooked or undercooked. The fried chicken was so overcooked it was almost black and hard and stringy. They ran out of sprouts for salads by the third day. The fruit was often mushy and overripe. Where they served burgers we found them and the fries were served close to room temperature as was the mayonnaise which was discolored on top and may have been the cause of my wife's diarrhea, vomiting, and upset stomach that ruined the last two days of the trip for us. The evening shows were well below the standard we came to expect on our previous cruise. However, the comedy shows were good except we missed the last two days since my wife was not feeling well. Our shore excursions at the first two ports were well worth the cost. Due to heavy rain, we were allowed to cancel the excursion at the last port of call. Read Less

Left out of Long Beach. Splendor could use a few aesthetic repairs but overall the ship seems to be in good shape. I love the pink decor! Comedy shows were super fun, best Piano Bar performer I've seen on CCL, Dara Jazzlin! Go see her. Bartenders were great. Best Chocotinis at sea. 4 stars instead of 5 because my brother didn't get a towel animal in his room for the first 2 days! Also the Serenity deck does not have a hot tub which was kind of a bummer. However there is an adults only pool and hot tubs at the back of the ship. Food was excellent in my opinion although there is no Guy's or Blue Iguana on this ship. I recommend getting the the mac and cheese in the dining room....always available even tho it's not on always on the menu. The gym was clean and not overly crowded. Wonderful vacation overall! 7 day Mexican Cruise. Longbeach arrival was easy via an Uber from my hotel. If you are early you can stand in line and go through before your set embarkation time, which got us on board 30 mins earlier. Highlights - mostly friendly staff, few grumpy exceptions, but particularly the stewards, look out for Bjorn he was lovely. Room was always clean and tidy. Food - pizza was great, sit down breakfast was also good. Room service - the free version average at best, the cost version slightly better. Lido buffet was very average, no flavour, some of the cakes were lovely that are served over lunch. Mazatlan was a wonderful port. We were on deck 2 forward, which wasn’t the best spot, but we were on a budget. The last 24 hours there was a lot of waves and it was a bit unpleasant, that’s not the ships fault. The two things that bugged me, firstly the cloud spa was terrible, I paid for a 7 day pass and used it twice. The service was snooty and rude and there were people everywhere, it was not relaxing at all. The spa services as your would expect on a cruise are not cheap and not worth the cost, several passengers felt the same way! Secondly, and this could be me being nieve, there is still a lot of things you pay for, drinks (sure but including soft drink, really?). The duty free is terrible, I bought a well known face cream before I left the cruise, it was almost double the price on board. Finally, the shopping information session on the first day at sea was terrible! It was just a huge upsell of diamond and watch companies disguised as a port information session, I did not learn one thing that was useful regarding the three ports we were visiting and many of us walked out after half an hour. Also, selling coupon books at $25 a pop that keep you locked in to visiting certain shops whilst in port is a con. Felt for the people that bought them. Lee, the cruise director was upbeat all the way through and I witnessed him genuinely chatting to passengers, he’s a natural. Overall. Ports were good, food average, up selling annoying and spa service dreadful. Would we go again, probably not. Read Less

The Carnival Splendor was the worst vacation I have had. The food was the worst no taste, cold and the only thing that was edibles were the things the kitchen didn't cook (Ice Cream, salad bar). Pre-Paying for the tips was a mistake they did not deserve the tips they got. Our room steward didn't clean the room 3 days of the 7-day cruise, we were in a spa room and it took 2 days to get the robes and beach towels. The room had leftover evidence of the previous passenger’s drinks in the fridge, paper boarding pass and our friend's room had dirty linens. The Morning breakfast waiter was very rude and yelled at another staff member in front of us. I will never go on another Carnival Cruise and possible an ocean cruise due to the experience. Everything is an up sale and high pressure, walking into the shops was a mistake because of the high-pressure sales it felt like the home shopping network. The shows where a joke and many people walked out, your male soprano in the shows should not be in the show or singing. The only good singer and I hope someone signs her is Dara Jazzlyn she was amazing. Read Less

Had a great time on board with most of the crew, but the Cruise Critic Meet and Mingle was poorly organized. Two Carnival crew members that pointed out some danishes, same ones from the buffet, and stayed for about 5 minutes before they disappeared. This was quite a bit different than our experience on MSC where the entire crew came, captain and all, talked about their brand and new ships that they were building. The captain stayed and took pictures with all 150 Cruise Critic members in attendance. Guess I shouldn't have expected that from Carnival. The Splendor is an aging ship. Some simple things like replacing the worn out cushions in the Serenity area would help a lot or even staining the hand railings outside. Still surprised that the sports bar only got 2 channels and neither one shows American football on Saturday during football season. Most of the treadmills were out of service stating that the noise was bothering the guests in the cabins below them. With that said, we didn't pay much and pretty much matched with what you get for budget cruise. We did like our cabin location and room steward was great! Read Less

We were asked to go on this cruise with family members who chose the Carnival Cruise Lines as they have cruised before with Carnival and always have a great time. We enjoyed every moment on the ship, shore excursions, the people who work on the ship are some of the nicest, most genuine people we've ever come across. Embarkation and debarkation was so smooth and easy, we were happily surprised. Thank you to our frequent bartender Martina-we enjoyed talking to you and the ship is lucky to have you on board! Our room steward was the best!-attentive, taking care of anything we needed-thank you so much Rodel! And the nightly dinner staff, well, we were lucky enough to get the best one on the ship I believe. Rusmiyanto, Yanuav, and Ludi. And please forgive me if I have misspelled any of your names, but thanks again for making our dining experiences the best, keep on dancing! And breakfast in the Lido while waiting to disembark, I want to thank Alexander so much for being so helpful and friendly. Read Less

My husband and I love cruising, and we chose the Carnival Splendor because we can drive to the port. This is our second time on the Splendor. We have been to Mexico many times and love it. We arrived at the port of Long Beach, and embarkation was very organized and went very smoothly. We had "Faster to Fun" which allowed us the embark more quickly. We chose a balcony cabin. We found it spacious with plenty of storage. Our room steward was excellent. The "My Time" dining room was excellent. Service was above and beyond what we have experienced in the past with "My Time" dining.(My husband and I have learned that if you want to be seated quickly in the "My Time" dining room, arrive a few minutes before it opens. We also find the waiters we like and ask for their area.) On the Splendor we found our waiters the first night and asked for their area every night. They were excellent, anticipating what we liked, for example, we like a diet coke at dinner and they always had it waiting for us. We did the Chef's table for the first time and it was excellent. It was a many course dinner. It started with a tour of the galley. I would recommend doing this. The food and service was excellent. Entertainment was very good. We did not go to the comedy shows. We did go to the production shows and loved them. We did not purchase any excursions. We walked around the ports on our own. Disembarkation was very organized, and went smoothly and quickly. In summary, we loved this cruise and what stands out is the great service we received from a fantastic crew. Read Less

Over the many years that we have been cruising (since 1982) we have met some wonderful cruisers that have become special friends. We chose this cruise because someone in our group of cruise buddies booked and so did we along with 9 others. Our cabin was enjoyable and the service was excellent. Clean and well kept. We ordered room service each morning, just coffee, danish and fruit to enjoy on the balcony. Great way to start the day. It was always delivered on time. Food in the buffet was never ending. Too much to choose from. The omelette station was excellent and a good show to watch as our special order was being made. Dinner in the Black Pearl dinning room was excellent. We sat with our cruise family during early dinning 5:45pm. Seating, service and quality of food was outstanding. Some of the best pork chops, salmon, tenderloin, filet and prime rib ever. PAN Fried oysters as an appetizer were served. I should have ordered 10 more. We have cruised the Mexican Riviera many times and have special places we enjoy when ashore, so do not do ship tours. In Cabo we enjoy a glass bottom boat ride out to Lands End.and walk along shops before returning to the ship. Mazatlan is always a trip to the public market and then over to Stone Island. We hang out a Lety's where the $1 beer and best guacamole in Mexico at an unbelievable low price is found. This time we help the fisherman pull in a net that was about 1,500 feet long and watch as they load the fish into a boat. Always something different on Stone Island. Puerto Vallarta is always a public bus ride south to the river and then a walk down hill through the shops to the bay. Then turn south along the sea wall for a short walk to The Cheeky Monkey our very favorite place to enjoy beer and food while people watching. You will find Cris and crew to treat you like old friends. Would we do this cruise again? Sure. Our next cruise we are thinking about will be in May and we are booked to Alaska on the NCL Jewel in September. Read Less

Overall was a great atmosphere, cruise director lee was always very informative and funny, the staff was always upbeat and helpful, and the stops were amazing! The food was good and you can order as much as you want.. I've been on a diet so I definitely indulged! They had comedy shows that were very good. There were typically 4 different comedy shows a night, two that are rated R two that are rated PG. So there's humor for everyone. We played miniature golf upstairs, they had many different courses, and although I think they should move some of the signs to be in different positions to where you need to put, it was still very fun! Dani was our lucky dealer! We won with her both in blackjack as well as craps. I would highly suggest seeking her out. It's all about energy when you're gambling and she brings the positivity!
