We chose this cruise because we never cruised on this ship. We were interested in something different. As we entered the ship we knew immediately this was a great choice. This ship was amazing! Yes she is older and doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the new ships but she is gorgeous! From the ships hanging from the ceiling in the buffet area to the ceiling fans in the Gatsby's garden she was beautiful. The dining room was decorated with grape vines and hanging grape chandeliers that were just sexy. The food was great all over the ship and the crew was awesome too. The serenity deck you could grab your lunch walk out to the serenity deck and enjoy a peaceful lunch. The casino was usual we did not win but it was fun. The theater was elegant plenty of room to enjoy the shows. One negative... I wish they would bring back the orchestra in the show room. Hopefully we will get to sail on her again. Read Less

This was our first cruise ever. We chose this one because of the Ports. We didn’t know what to expect we thought for sure there would be this long line of waiting to get on and this big procedure. It was simple, flowed smoothly and we were impressed they were this organized. My friend and also travel agent booked this same trip as well. We did not go together it was just the husband and I but we seen her around the ship here and there. The ship seemed older to me but I have nothing to compare to. Her opinion when I caught up with her was this was the worst ship she’s ever seen and the decor was so old she didn’t like it. She stated that normally you enter and there is just this awe of main atrium and this didn’t have that so she said wished we could’ve experienced this as our first cruise. However as the cruise went along she said that this was the first time she’s ever seen a ship not so crowded and it was because of the ships unique layout. Most ships I guess have most of their “activity” in basically one area. She kept saying “where is everyone?” She liked that things were so spread out and said the ship was really growing on her and in the end loved it! Because I have nothing to compare to I thought I’d share what she told me as well. I never felt crowded at times almost felt like we were the only ones on the ship. Our cabin was fine. Nothing fancy but did what it needed. I expecting this small Area as I did lots of research on how to prepare. We did an interior room and had ample closet space. One down side is one plug in at desk only but sounds like the whole one plug is typical on all cruise ships. Our room stewardt Gilbert was amazing and so sweet! He knew our names the first night and every time he seen us would say our name and ask how we were doing. He asked if we wanted our room done once or twice. Once was fine as we spent very little time in our room pretty much only for sleeping. Dining well... here was probably the only downside of our whole cruise! I was not impressed by the food! Most times only 1 or 2 stations/buffers were open. He likes very simple foods and could’ve ate at the grill every single day. Every day was same thing (burgers, tenders, fries) he loved that they had that every day. They were only open until 6 though so that I as a bit disappointing. But was really disappointing was how dried out the hamburgers were!!! The first day they were great! The pizza I had the first night I thought was gross! Then I had a garlic piece a couple nights later and thought it was one of the best! Everyday after port I wanted the salad bar. Ports were hot and I wanted something lite but one day is was open and the other 3 it was not! Grrrr so hit and miss what was open and what wasn’t. Sometimes 6 stations were open sometimes 1. We ate in the main dining room only twice. He isn’t much for a fancy dining experience but I enjoyed it. If you want to try exotic foods here’s your chance! I however am just your normal steak and potatoes kind of girl. One night it was great the next it was so so. He ordered a cheeseburger lol we were in and out every time. We made sure we went the last night because they had a farewell dance and song. Was fun! As far as activities went we only did 3 things casino, comedy show and bingo. Comedians were good. We only attended adult shows. Bingo was pricey and we played only 3 cards costed 50$ we were undecided if we would ever do it again. The casino is where we spent 90% of our time. He likes the tables and I like the slots. He became a VIP member the first night and received all drinks for free for the rest of the week while in the casino. Unfortunately he doesn’t drink lol but the pit boss let him share with me. I only had 3 our whole cruise and they were good! If we cruise again we wouldn’t add on a beverage package for him. It was 70$ for the week just for soda. I didn’t order a package as I like water and if I wanted a soda we were each allowed to bring in a 12 pack each and I ordered water prior to the cruise. I wouldn’t do that again either well maybe 1 pack of water. I didn’t realize that water ice tea and lemonade were available all throughout the ship whenever I wanted. I would just bring a water bottle instead. However back to the casino I had so many people say don’t do it as they are not regulated but I did well. I ended up losing in the end but I’d win here and there and was enough to keep me playing for days. One day I put in 100$ and I played on that for 3 days with the up and downs. Because of his status we got cookies delivered to our room from the casino and just little perks like that because of his status. So if you’re big into gambling expect to have better treatment. Service from every single employee was outstanding!!! I can’t believe how these people get to know you on a first name basis and are always smiling and happy. They are stuck on this ship for 6 months at a clip and are always always happy!! The lido Restaurant/buffet never once did we have someone come pick up plates or ask if we needed something while we were eating in there. Maybe that’s how they all are though?? Ports: My travel agent says don’t ever book with the cruise line themselves they are always overpacked and you don’t Get one on one service. Shoretrips also gaurentees for you to be back to the ship on time. Cayman we did the stingray city plus omg what an experience!! Must do. We went to hell and turtle farm. Sting rays are in natural environment where as turtles are on a farm. Could’ve done without that part but was cool to hold a sea turtle! Honduras was a bit scary for us to do. We’ve heard so many bad things. The poverty is so bad there but we had a great time. We had a taxi driver who was our personal service man all day for 165$ we went ziplining, tour of city and included our taxi for as long as we wanted. He waited with us everywhere we went. We did pay to go to an exclusive resort which had security which was 20$ a person and then paid another 15$ each to snorkel. We have our own snorkel gear( get the full face ones if you don’t have them.. amazingggg!!) but we paid because he took us out a bit further over the reef and then given a life jacket each. Gear would’ve been included but like I said we had our own. The son who was maybe 8 and didn’t speak English but he would grab my hand and have us follow him. It was just us 2 on this boat and you could still see the resort. This was the only excursion (Honduras as a whole thst is) we didn’t pre book. I would never take a cruise and book an excursion once we get to port. The language barrier makes it to hard and you don’t know what you’re getting yourself no into. Belize this was a bit disappointing we booked the al tun ha ruins. The ride was an hour there and an hour back and we could spend as much time at the ruins we wanted. Because we didn’t book with carnival and did our own it was just us 2 and our tour guide. Wow that’s the way to go because then you’d see the busses come in with 50 people in a group and one tour guide. We had our own one on one and the price is exactly the same!! We didn’t see the water or beaches here. But heard they are amazing. Last Cozumel we did the Atlantis submarine and absolutely loved it. Only 3% of the population has ever been on one and we went 100 feet down. We could’ve seen more life but was still incredible. Because this only took up 2 hours we had lots of free time and chose to do this horse and buggy tour for 85$ that was outside the port. DO NOT DO THIS!!! He took us to his places and the slums of towns m.. this is where they tried selling you everything and took your picture and tried selling you everything. I would do it all again. Same ports and same ship. Read Less

Only went once to dinning room , it takes too long and food is just has good and I can take what I like in the buffet. I really like the cabin , but the smoking is a problem. I can see that Carnival does not want to get people mad . They have rules about smoking , but they won't do anything about it. The casino smoke fills the Atrium so it smoke bothers you it comes out to the Atrium while you are trying to listen to music. Aggravating!! Itinerary is good. Also make sure you know which cruise Port your ship is at in Tampa there no signs to tell you where to go . You might go to the NCL ship by mistake. Read Less

In 2014 I did this ship from Long Beach and though looking a bit weary at the time I thought that I would give it a go once again because of the price but was left disappointed. A bit of a history before I start--I am well above 30 cruises, this being my tenth with Carnival and my first with them was back in 2009. Over the years I noticed subtle changes being introduced but now all the subtle changes are adding up. First the food. As a solo traveler I tend to just do the buffet and Carnival overall used to have good choices but not this cruise. Even when I did the Miracle in 2014 I do not recall there being less selection and actually times, for dinner, not having enough choice that I would end up grabbing some cheese, maybe a bit of protein in regards to fish or chicken but that would be it. Even the vegetables looked like they were the frozen ones, thawed out and flung into the food. Plus, onion over-kill! I think onions were in everything and what this meant was that many dishes, especially on the Asian grill, had guests slowly trying to pull the meat out, leaving the onions and other fillers behind causing huge line-ups. I noticed as well that there seemed to be less staff in the buffet area than there used to be. In fact, of all my cruises, not once in that area did anyone come by to offer me coffee during breakfast or to inquire as if I wanted wine for lunch or dinner; woefully understaffed. The poor gentleman that was making omelettes had to spend one morning with partial cooking utensils slowing things down. I asked if there was not a supervisor who could help him by fetching another two or three items and he just shook his head--I felt so sorry for him. Then the welcome-aboard--now gone! It used to be years ago from the second cruise returning guests on seven day cruises would be invited to the main theatre for a complimentary drink and there were all kinds of choices. A few years later, the only choice was a punch and on this last cruise, none at all except for a coupon for a free drink, no more than $9 in value that could only be used on the last night after 5pm--talk about terms and conditions!! I had mentioned to my cabin steward that I am an early morning person and if possible, only would require a refresh once during the day (not two that used to be the standard--not sure if it still is for this cruise line). The normal time for my refresh would be anywhere from noon to 1pm---it got so much that even he started to apologize for always having me wait so long. Perhaps too, they have cut back on cleaning staff. I took the stairs a lot and noticed that some floors had one carpet design and other floors another. Though clean, it reminded me of a first apartment I might have had as a student throwing together whatever hand-me-downs I could get. The common areas, though the colours may have been popular when the ship was built, it is time to update them with warmer tones that belong to this time period. Peptol Bismol pink splashed here or there with 70s retro blue and reds were not appealing. Oh, and if you are not a fan of country music, bring headphones. In the buffet area country music was dominant, about 75% worth. Entertainment--the acoustic singer was nice but it seemed like he was working too hard. He had a wonderful voice at times then at others it sounded strained--I was worried about him actually. There was a guy and girl that sang and they were hit or miss and it was the same with the three violinists--sometimes they sounded lovely and others sounded like three people meeting for the first jam. I only did one production show, partially, the 80s one. Song selections were wonderful but I am sure I could have sung it better and left after ten minutes--no lie, and this is not meant to be hurtful, but this was below karaoke at a bar. Embarking and debarking--they have a new system now where room keys are placed in an envelope waiting outside the cabin door. I was not comfortable with this change in the world of hacking. Debarking, though the Cruise Director insisted that self carry would be by deck, I saw all decks leave at the same time so I asked the crew member there if I could get in without getting into trouble and he let me join the line--not very fair really for those still waiting. Last but not least, the Cruise Director. He was a very nice man to speak to one on one however his announcements over the PA system were too long and repetitive. He used the word "folks" so many times that I wanted to scrap that word from my vocabulary forever. On sea days, mercy, it seemed like there were announcements every hour and of course this was mostly to promote buying excursions, the casino and so forth; information easily obtainable in the daily brochure. The ports I have been to many times so I will not comment on those except to laugh at a disclaimer: Honduras and Belize they had written that the US had a Travel Advisory in effect due to the high crime rates, yet, we sailed to them anyway. Live in Oldsmar (tampa area) so like to cruise out of Tampa when can. Embarking was alright but bit of a cluster compared to Royal. It was weird to not get seacard at checking. It was at room when got to cabin. Cabin was pretty typical and nothing special. Ship overall showed signs of wear. On Royal it seems crew is always painting or working on something in common areas. Didnt see much of that on Miracle. One of the pools have a retractable roof and the blue paint where is slides is worn and rusty. Breakfast was nothing to write home about. Scrambled eggs were more like corn grits most days. Getting an omelet or fried egg could be a 20 min process at times. I have never had coffee so do the soda package but finding a place to get one before 8 was hard.i am up by 6 or 6:30 so a self service station would be great. The pool area has 4 bar positions but only really used one of them. Pool doesnt seem to open till about 9 and one was not operating for 1st 2 days. They say 24 hour pizza but not always case. One morning I wanted pizza to put an egg on and had to wait 20 min while make them. Entertainment was average. Didn't do the main theater because it seemed it was just singing not appealing so did comedy most night and pretty funny stuff both pg and adult. Cruise director Frankie was great and found out is from Tampa. Dinner in dining room was very nice. Service was fine and food was acceptable for sure. They would always make sure didnt need anything. Seems to be a lull in activity between like 3 and 7. Did not care at all for casino. Not a big gambler but it is 100% all smoking and people sure do it. Getting to either showroom on 2nd or 3rd floor or comedy on 1 often had you walking right through smoke. Games say penny but 30 cents is min bet and you can get credit voucher for balance they put it on your room card then when go back min you can take off card is $10. Kind of a pain and they dont really have much of variety of machines. Ports were nice been to all before except Roatan and thought it would be worse but it turned out to be best. One of few ports I have been to that you dock at and can do a beach without a shore excursion. Belize is a 5 mile tender ride. Loading and unloading of tenders can be 20 min. Sports bar was nice but pretty much shows what is on ABC or ESPN but like 5 bug screens. Read Less

My husband and I chose this cruise because of the ports we would visit. The ports minus Belize City, were very nice and the excursions we picked were great. The cave diving in Cozumel was amazing. Definitely recommend this. The food was horrible, from the dinning room to the buffet. No flavor and the food on the buffet was always dry, overcooked. If desserts were homemade then they should consider another baker because the desserts were terrible. Very disappointed with the food. Our best meals were what we ate on either excursions or while in port. Drinks from the bar, again not very good. If my husband and I wanted a good drink we had to go to the alchemy bar on the 2nd floor. If we were at the pool on the 9th floor it wasn't convenient at all. Serenity adult only pool, the seat cushion covers were satined and nasty. It didnt appear that they have been removed and washed any time soon. We wouldn't take this ship again at all. Read Less

Pros: Medium size ship is relatively easy to navigate. Generally polite staff throughout the ship. Most guests on Carnival are friendly, unpretentious people. Cruise director was pleasant and efficient. Two of the four comedians were very entertaining. One of the movies that was offered was excellent. Fresh fruit was available on Lido for most meals. Several dishes at the Lido buffets and main dining room were prepared well and had excellent flavor. A few desserts were works of art. There are several nice displays of decorative crystal in the ship stairwells. Shipboard shops had a couple of nice sales and sales staff were quite approachable and helpful. Debarkation at the end of the cruise was smooth and uneventful, despite long lines. Luggage was well organized and easily located in the terminal. And terminal personnel were helpful in their directions. Cons: Embarkation delays and difficulties, especially for the handicapped, as there were not enough wheelchairs to meet needs. 2-3 chairs per ship is too few when each trip takes half an hour or more to board each person and there are several dozen people waiting and more arriving all the time. Most staterooms are not available to guests until early to mid afternoon on embarkation day, so guests must lug their carryon baggage with them everywhere they go until then. There was a bad shudder (shaking) to the ship throughout the cruise. Is something wrong with the engines? Not many good choices for dining, activities or entertainment. Very limited offerings on the Lido deck for dinner. No wait staff on hand there in the evenings, either, to offer beverages or other services. Food was generally mediocre, either spiced the same or very bland, portion sizes in the main dining room sometimes varied wildly from one plate to another, sauces and dressings were often too thick to pour or use as a dip, options for ordering and free beverages were never offered by main dining room staff. Choices for pizza, outdoor grill and deli were fixed and too limited. Outdoor grill food was often overcooked, cold, dried out and inedible. One of the two soft serve machines was not functional during the entire cruise, creating long lines. No juices are offered on Lido for breakfast, only sugary drinks. Juice is offered only in main dining room, but the main dining room breakfasts were not cooked properly. Long lines for dining and entertainment venues. Gaudy, visually jarring decor in many of the public areas such as the main dining rooms, bars. Tiny uncomfortable "library" had few books, felt like a wasted space. Very heavy glass doors to some public rooms, making them inaccessible to some disabled guests. Entertainment venues were too small for most shows/comedy performances. Serenity adult area at the stern of the ship was anything but serene — packed with people, chaotic and noisy. An assault on the senses. No anniversary celebration was offered despite it being listed on our dining room slip and general cruise documents. Very disappointing. Dining room service spotty, some tables were skipped for dessert, ignored for beverage refills, etc. Spa services refused to supply a price list -- prices for each service had to be "negotiated" separately. No prices were ever listed for "specials," either, only "$$ off." Choice of stateroom service (morning or evening) was ignored by stewards, leading to daily inconveniences. "Chocolate Extravaganza" was mostly cakes. Main dining room sometimes opened late due to poor scheduling of staff meetings, stressing staff as well as guests. Slow dining room service often meant guests would have to leave before dessert to make it to the other end of the ship early enough to find seating for scheduled entertainment. Popular entertainment was often scheduled in conflict with dinner and other one time entertainment so something had to be missed. Why not have some matinees? Several entertainment activities and presentations were too childish for most adults. Because of the location, relatively few guests could get a view of the ice carving demonstration. Some port tender boats were exceedingly slow and/or poorly maintained, making for uncomfortable rides and long waits to get ashore as well as to return to the ship. No tender ports had seating in the onshore waiting areas for those wanting to return to the ship. Drinking water for returning guests was provided at one tender port but was located beyond the security ropes out of reach of guests. The Western Caribbean itinerary is always the same out of Tampa, limiting its appeal. Much of the musical entertainment was mediocre to poor, amateurish. Too many cutbacks in recent years-- no bathrobes or bath amenities in staterooms, no birthday or anniversary celebrations, no sea day teas, stained towels and threadworn bedding, ragged carpets, burned out lightbulbs, fewer stateroom stewards to service rooms which makes staterooms inaccessible to guests for 6-8 hours every day. Stateroom "categories" are practically meaningless except for location within the ship. A "large" stateroom can be very tight with little space for storage. Although we paid hundred$ extra, it was the smallest stateroom we've had in over 20 cruises. Room safe can be accessed only with a magnetic strip type card, not a keyed in code that could be used by spouse or fellow roommates. Guests cannot hear ship-wide announcements when inside the stateroom. There should be an option for this. Yet all guests were awakened in the middle of the night by an in-stateroom announcement about a private medical emergency. Announcements made in noisy public areas such as the Lido buffets and outdoor decks could not be understood at all. Also, music piped into many parts of the ship was so loud that it drove away guests. There were persistent problems with the toilets throughout the ship -- dirty water, non functioning, etc. A couple of times the electricity in the stateroom went out. There is no dedicated movie theater, no outdoor movie screen and no schedule or guide for the limited television channels. No access to the stateroom folio account or daily schedule/menus through the television, either. Most of the few movies that were offered were aimed at juveniles. Water slide was dry and nonfunctional during our cruise. No explanation given. Never enough chaise lounges or other seating near the pools to meet demand. Poltergeists apparently took over one elevator, leading to trapped guests not being able to get where they wanted to go and then opening the door only extremely briefly so guests could not safely exit, either. Sales in the atrium are never a good idea -- too many shoppers in way too small a place. People actually fought to get to the only available side of a table of t-shirts. Shipboard bar drinks were generally not well made and were much higher in price than on several other cruise lines, as well. No encouragement or urging for guests to wash their hands and use hand sanitizers, especially in the dining venues. As a result, most guests did not do so, spreading their germs/illnesses everywhere, to the detriment of all. Lots of coughing and sneezing passengers aboard the ship. Some venues (Mad Hatters Ball) were so cold the staff supplied guests with blankets to watch movies. No popcorn, though. Constant heavy "mist" spewed into the air of the Phantom Theater for theatrical atmospheric purposes smelled bad and caused coughing amongst the guests. This mist was not turned off regardless of whether it was appropriate for the entertainment production. Poor ventilation in and near the casino made for unpleasantly smoky conditions throughout that deck and beyond. Raffles in the shipboard shops (must be present to win) were held during the late evening when most guests would be at dinner or attending entertainment productions/events. Folio charges and credits were issued per guest instead of per stateroom, even though only one credit card was on file to cover the account. This meant that each guest listed on the account had to make individual purchases to cover their individual credits instead of one large purchase being allowed to absorb the entire group's or couple's credits. There should instead be an option to group the credits on the same account. Some shipboard charges, such as gratuities, are not added to the passengers' account until the last day of the cruise, creating unrealistic expectations for passengers and naturally followed by long lines at the Front Desk. Only a two hour window (9-11 p.m.) was allowed for setting luggage in the hallway for pick up the night before debarkation, leading to missed entertainment on the final night of the cruise. Read Less

My family and I wanted to try a cruise for a second time and we picked the best of the best! Great service! Amazing cabin space! Great entertainment! Food was good too. We did a 8 day Western Caribbean package. Here are some things the encounter: - Rooms, they were very comfortable and with tons of space, we stayed on 4139. 2 Adults and 1 kid and it was just what we needed. - Room Service. Aldo was our housekeeper and he did a superb job! No complaints! Always ready to help and prompt to answer any question. - Food. The restaurant was good, but there were some good and bad days. We went for brunch one morning and they took 45 minutes to bring our food. At night I will rate it at a 7 out of 10. - Entertainment. We had an awesome time listening to all types of music at the atrium and bars. Casino has a good size, but from my perspective payback percentage is too low. I didn't see a lot of big winners on the slots, tables were better. Read Less

The staff and bartenders were amazing (especially those at the casino or alchemy bars). The food in bacchus and lido was a little underwhelming overall; however, the private chefs table was fantastic and the steakhouse was probably one of the best meals I have ever eaten...not to mention the pizza being fantastic and open all the time. Comedy club acts were great, shows were pretty good. Frankie and the rest of the staff did a great job. Overall one amazing trip. All of the ports were great. I was disappointed with how they handled a river in Belize making it impossible to get to our Xunantunich excursion. They waited to tell us it had to be canceled after riding an early morning tender over, right before boarding the bus. Options were take their offer of full price transfer to another site 2 hrs away (but not the amazing xunantunich ruins) or head back to the ship. If they had told us earlier we could have slept in a bit and done one of the other ruins excursions or another excursion all together. We still had fun, but disappointed in how that was handled. Be sure no matter what you do that you do some excursion (carnival or private) where you visit sting ray city in the grand cayman. Yes it was crowded...but you HAVE to visit. That was an amazing experience that you will treasure. The boat is a little cheesy in decor, but who cares. The staff is amazing and this was a truly awesome trip. Read Less

Rooms appear old , filthy and not in good shape...debarkation process is a nightmare....carnival really needs to dry dock this ship and redo it....will never do it again...what was intended to be a nice family thanksgiving cruise was less than that.....our children did not have a good time, and it took us 2 hours to get a table in the formal dining room with the my time dining plan...then an additional hour and a half to finish dinner...so a minimum of 3 hours just for dinner, which caused us to miss other activities in the evenings....We will definitely not ever do this ship again due to the condition of the ship itself and the poor service received.
